The Wonder Years reboot has been cancelled at ABC after just two seasons.As confirmed via Variety, the show, which was a reboot of the 1988 original, will not return for a third season.Based on the 1988 series of the same name, the new, reimagined show focussed on the lives of a Black middle-class family in Alabama in the late 1960s, in contrast to the white family depicted in the original series that first aired on ABC in March 1988.Don Cheadle narrated the series as adult Dean Williams and was joined by Elisha “EJ” Williams (Dean Williams), Dulé Hill (Bill Williams), Saycon Sengbloh (Lillian Williams), Laura Kariuki (Kim Williams), Julian Lerner (Brad Hitman), Amari O’Neil (Cory Long) and Milan Ray (Keisa Clemmons).The reboot was written and produced by Lee Daniels (Monster’s Ball, Precious, The Butler) alongside comedy veteran Saladin K. Patterson (The Big Bang Theory, Frasier) and Marc Velez, who heads up Lee Daniels Entertainment.

BreAnna Bell “The Wonder Years” has been canceled at ABC after two seasons, Variety has confirmed. Based on the 1988 sitcom of the same name, the reimagined series followed a Black middle-class family in Montgomery, Alabama, through the point of view of imaginative 12-year-old Dean.

EXCLUSIVE: ABC has opted not to proceed with a third season of The Wonder Years. The news comes a month after the reboot of the classic coming-of-age comedy wrapped its Season 2 run on the network.

ABC has pushed the second season premiere of comedy series The Wonder Years to summer 2023. The network says a specific premiere date will be announced at a later time.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Marc Velez has joined UCP as senior vice president and head of development, Variety has learned. In addition, Naketha Mattocks has joined Universal Television (UTV) as senior vice president of drama development. In his new role, Velez will report to Jennifer Gwartz, executive vice president of UCP. He joins the studio from Lee Daniels Entertainment, of which he was the president. He takes over development at UCP from Garrett Kemble, who left earlier this year for a role at Anonymous Content’s AC Studios. “Marc is a rare executive who is entrepreneurial, creative, and a partner to our talent and buyers,” said Beatrice Springborn, president of UCP and Universal International Studios. “We are fortunate to have him lead our creative team, who represent the best of the best as we continue to evolve and grow our slate.”

UCP and Universal Television, divisions of Universal Studio Group, have each brought in an SVP-level development executive. Lee Daniels Entertainment President Marc Velez has been named SVP, Head of Development for UCP, reporting to Jennifer Gwartz, EVP, UCP. Former Netflix executive Naketha Mattocks joins Universal Television as SVP, Drama Development reporting to Vivian Cannon, EVP, Drama Development, UTV.
