While there was a live-action movie, “The Last Airbender,” in 2010 from M. Night Shyamalan, the film never took off nor captured the spirit of the “Avatar: The Last Airbender,” animated series from Nickelodeon which has become a cult classic for specific audiences who grew up with it.

Can a live-action series live up to its animated predecessor? Netflix is once again taking on a  beloved animated property with “Avatar: The Last Airbender.” The live-action project sees executive producer and original showrunner Albert Kim adapt the early ‘00s Nickelodeon title for a new generation of fans—all the while keeping an eye on what original fans are looking for in a new ‘Avatar’ series.

We’re getting the first look at the Fire Nation characters in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Netflix‘s live-action reimagining of the award-winning Nickelodeon animated series. The streamer released several photos Tuesday (see above and below) of the Fire Nation characters which include Daniel Dae Kim as “Fire Lord Ozai,” Paul Sun-Hyung Lee as “General Iroh,” Ken Leung as “Commander Zhao,” and Elizabeth Yu as “Princess Azula,” along with a new image of Dallas Liu as “Prince Zuko.”

Billed as a comedic take on Velma Dinkley's origins, the show will put an «original and humorous spin» on the character, described as the «the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc.

Ethan Shanfeld Fresh off the viral news that Velma is officially a lesbian in the latest “Scooby-Doo” movie, the Mystery Inc. member is getting more love in Mindy Kaling’s upcoming adult animated series set at HBO Max. Much like the world of high-finance that the show is set in, there’s “no break” when it comes to HBO’s Industry.

If any show were capable of holding up a mirror to society and reflecting the great pandemic corporate vibe shift underway, it would be HBO’s “Industry.” The hour-long dramedy returns from a nearly two-year hiatus, attributable largely to the pandemic it so acutely depicts on-screen, as sharp and incisive as ever. As the show picks up the thread of the upstart analysts at London’s prestigious investment bank Pierpoint &.

Shyamalan’s films over the past several years have suffered from convoluted plotting, self-importance and overall tedium. Even some of his most digestible work, like the TV show “Wayward Pines,” peaked fast and then quickly trailed off.But breaking the pattern, “Old” is pleasantly straightforward and has a tough-to-pin-down quality that has been missing from the “Sixth Sense” director’s recent work — confidence.
