Paramount+ may have culled a raft of international originals last month but UK commissioning appears to be continuing apace.

Will Mellor was left "fuming" after playing Lee Castleton, a victim of the Post Office scandal, in ITV's series Mr Bates vs The Post Office.The series tells the true story of Alan Bates and his fight for justice following the Post Office scandal in the late 90s. The cast, alongside Will, 47, includes Toby Jones, Katherine Kelly, Amy Nuttall, Julie Hesmondhalgh, Monica Dolan, Lia Williams and Alex Jennings.There are four episodes in the series, with all of them available to watch on ITVX. After filming, Will questioned how those responsible for the crisis could live with themselves and labelled it as "vile" that former Post Office boss Paula Vennells received a CBE.

The Yorkshire Ripper to The Long Shadow after criticism from victims’ families.The new drama series will focus on the five-year manhunt for serial killer Peter Sutcliffe – known as the Yorkshire Ripper – who killed 13 women and attempted to kill seven more between 1975-1980.In a new interview with The Daily Telegraph, screenwriter George Kay said that the name change came after criticism from families, and problems surrounding the use of the popular nickname.“We started by calling it The Yorkshire Ripper but in the beginning we hadn’t learnt, as we did when making the show, that the moniker used to describe Peter Sutcliffe – which obviously began before anyone knew his real name, but continued after – was disrespectful in many ways,” he said.“The victims’ families certainly don’t want that name being applied to Peter Sutcliffe because it creates a dark brand around a man who doesn’t deserve that sort of attention, and especially not that verb.“That was one of our lessons. We’ve been working on this for four years and in that time we’ve met lots of people in all parts of this story.”Kay added: “We’ve tried to learn and change and understand their stories and their opinions, and so because of that the title changed from The Yorkshire Ripper.”The Long Shadow will come to ITV1 and ITVx later this month, and stars Toby Jones as detective Dennis Hoban, and David Morrissey as his successor George Oldfield.Elsewhere, Katherine Kelly plays Sutcliffe’s second victim Emily Jackson, with Daniel Mays playing her husband Sydney.A synopsis of the show reads: “One murder has the power to cast a long shadow and this case plunged a whole society into darkness.

HBO has released the official trailer for the eight-episode second season of creator Sally Wainwright’s “Gentleman Jack” ahead of its April 25 debut. “Gentleman Jack” is The story of pioneering lesbian Anne Lister, a mountaineer, landowner, businesswoman, and prolific diarist who “wrote in code in part about her sexual trysts and love affairs with women,” as nicely contextualized by the Advocate.

The Great British Bake Off, returns once again as a whole of host of stars take on baking challenges in an effort to raise money and awareness for Stand Up to Cancer. The Channel 4 series, which started on airing on Tuesday March 22, will see contestants take on a range of challenges including making decorated biscuits, a technical round involving making madeleines and an another round to showcase their secret baking talents.

The BBC and HBO have teased a set of first look images for the second season of Sally Wainwright’s Gentleman Jack.
