Naman Ramachandran Prime Video has set a premiere date for its original film “Ae Watan Mere Watan,” headlined by Sara Ali Khan (“Zara Hatke Zara Bachke”). The film revolves around an underground radio station led by a courageous young woman that changed the course of India’s freedom struggle in 1942. It draws inspiration from freedom fighter Usha Mehta’s journey.

Leo Barraclough International Features Editor Indian filmmaker and TV personality Karan Johar has become the first Indian director to receive the Variety Vanguard Award, recognizing industry leaders who have significantly contributed to the global entertainment business. On Saturday, Variety’s executive editor of film and media, Tatiana Siegel, handed Johar his award at the third edition of the Red Sea Film Festival, followed by a career-spanning conversation. The director-producer-TV host came out of a seven-year directing hiatus with the highly successful “Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.” The pause, the filmmaker says, was due to his busy schedule as head of the production company Dharma Productions and the host of “Koffee With Karan,” one of India’s longest-running and most popular talk shows.

Naman Ramachandran Indian Oscar winner Guneet Monga Kapoor’s Sikhya Entertainment and multihyphenate Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment have teamed for the first time to produce original series “Gyaarah Gyaarah” for streamer ZEE5. Directed by Umesh Bist (Sikhya-Balaji Motion Pictures-Netflix film “Pagglait”) and co-written by Puja Banerji and Sunjoy Shekhar, the series, described as being in the investigative fantasy drama genre, is set across three decades and timelines – 1990, 2001 and 2016 – and blends mysticism, science and mystery. The series will be produced by Monga Kapoor and Achin Jain for Sikhya and Johar and Apoorva Mehta for Dharmatic.

Prime Video today announced that it will co-produce a new film for theatrical release with Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Leo Media Collective. The currently-untitled film is scheduled for a theatrical release on July 28, 2023. Following the theatrical release, the film will be available for streaming on Prime worldwide.

Indian film actress Alia Bhatt, 29, found herself trending Wednesday after completing 10 years in the film industry.
