EXCLUSIVE: MindRiot Entertainment, the transatlantic indie behind Danielle Deadwyler’s Parallel and the upcoming OceanGate pic Salvaged has locked the rights to adapt former pro skater Josh Swindell’s memoir into a feature film. 

reports Deadline. While no specific cast or plot details have been released, MindRiot’s Justin MacGregor and Jonathan Keasey will co-write the film while E. Brian Dobbins is set to co-produce.

The Blackening, has signed on to produce alongside MindRiot Entertainment, which has also greenlit a docuseries based on the former OceanGate mission director Kyle Bingham.According to The Guardian, its current working title is Salvaged.In June, a tourist submarine named Titan made headlines when it went missing in the North Atlantic on an expedition to the Titanic shipwreck.At some point on its journey, it suffered a “catastrophic implosion” killing all five people on board, including Stockton Rush, the submersible’s pilot and the chief executive officer of OceanGate.The vessel was missing for four days before debris was discovered and the five passengers were confirmed dead.“The Titan Tragedy is yet another example of a misinformed and quick-to-pounce system, in this case, our nonstop, 24-7 media cycle that convicts and ruins the lives of so many people without any due process,” MindRiot co-founder Jonathan Keasey said in a statement via Deadline.“Our film will not only honour all those involved in the submersible tragedy, and their families, but the feature will serve as a vessel that also addresses a more macro concern about the nature of media today.”He added: “Truth is all that matters. And the world has a right to know the truth, always, not the salacious bait crammed down our throats by those seeking their five minutes of fame.

An OceanGate tragedy movie is already in the works.

EXCLUSIVE: In an early bid, Vertical has secured worldwide rights to Parallel, a new sci-fi thriller starring Danielle Deadwyler (Till), Aldis Hodge (One Night in Miami…) and Edwin Hodge (The Tomorrow War). The film directed by Kourosh Ahari (The Night), from a screenplay by Jonathan Keasey (Down Wind) and the Hodge brothers, is slated for release in theaters later this year.

Anna Marie de la Fuente Scott Waugh whose credits include “Act of Valor” and the upcoming “The Expendables 4,” is attached to direct the upcoming documentary “Escape to Atlantis,” based on the findings of Seattle native Dr. Jason Rubin who has used deductive reasoning, the writings of philosopher Plato and cutting-edge satellite sonar imagery to pinpoint the location of the fabled lost island of Atlantis.  Said Waugh: “Every story, whether fact or fable, has a character we believe in and hope they prevail. Wouldn’t it be great to be part of a story where our protagonist wins and redefines the world’s truth?” “If Dr. Rubin has found Atlantis, not only does he continually save lives in the ER room, but he will have risen the dead of those lost in Plato’s fable and will redefine our history. That is a story I want to be a part of,” he added.  

Anna Marie de la Fuente Seattle-based MindRiot Entertainment is teaming up with Panama’s Hypatia Films, an associate producer of Claire Denis’ Cannes Grand Prix winner “Stars at Noon,” on the groundbreaking documentary, “In Search of Atlantis,” based on the findings of Seattle native Dr. Jason Rubin who has used deductive reasoning, the writings of philosopher Plato and the most advanced satellite sonar imagery to pinpoint the location of the fabled lost island of Atlantis.  According to MindRiot co-founder and chief creative officer Jonathan Keasey, Dr. Rubin passed on other Hollywood suitors as he liked MindRiot’s approach to the content and the fact that it had marshalled the support of multiple universities, including deep sea explorer Don Walsh, the honorary president of the Explorers Club, and even European authorities, given the maritime jurisdiction of Rubin’s site in the Atlantic Ocean.

EXCLUSIVE: Danielle Deadwyler (Till) has signed on to star alongside Aldis Hodge and his brother Edwin Hodge in the sci-fi thriller Parallel, from director Kourosh Ahari (IFC Films’ The Night), which has entered production in Vancouver.

Anna Marie de la Fuente Panama’s award-winning Hypatia Films and Guatemala’s Jayro Bustamante, whose most recent film, “La Llorona,” made the Oscar international film shortlist, is partnering with Jonathan Keasey of Mind Riot Entertainment to make WWII drama “Down Wind.”The film marks a rare collaboration between two major Central American filmmakers and an American writer-producer. Bustamante will direct based on a screenplay by Keasey, who has also boarded as a producer.The drama’s lead production company, Hypatia Films, run by Pituka Ortega Heilbron and Marcela Heilbron, is an associate producer on Claire Denis’ Cannes competition contender “The Stars at Noon,” which was filmed in Panama and on which Hypatia provided production services.

The series is about journalist, game developer and computer programmer Brianna Wu’s experience as a critic and target of the notorious 2014 online harassment campaign. Gamergate is co-created and co-written by Wu and J. Brad Wilke.

Kourosh Ahari will direct. The siblings will play brothers in the film, and they wrote the script with Jonathan Keasey (K-Sun and My Wife Hates Your Wife). They will also produce under their newly christened Hodge Brothers Productions banner.
