The Smiths bassist Andy Rourke has died following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Ryuichi Sakamoto‘s management has shared a playlist curated by the late musician and composer, titled ‘Funeral’.Released today (May 15), his management wrote on social media: “We would like to share the playlist Ryuichi has been privately compiling to be played at his own funeral to accompany his passing. Johnny Marr has announced a series of headline shows, set to take place across the UK later this year.Announced today (April 25), the new tour will feature eight stops at venues across the UK and work around the numerous festival appearances the former Smiths guitarist is already set to play.The tour spans throughout summer 2023, and will kick off with a performance at the Picturedrome in Holmfirth on July 17. From there, Marr will embark on shows in Lincoln, Northampton and Tunbridge Wells for the remainder of the month, before playing four more gigs in August.These will feature sets in Wrexham, Frome and Plymouth, before ending with a show at the Empire in Middlesbrough on August 25.

Johnny Marr has announced an upcoming photo book, “a labour of love” that celebrates his important guitars.Set for release on October 17, Marr’s Guitars will pay homage to over 100 of the guitars that he has had throughout his 40 year career and include anecdotes about the milestones he faced during this time.“Guitars have been the obsession of my life – they’ve been a mission and sometimes a lifeline,” the former Smiths guitarist turned solo star and composer said in a statement. “So I’m delighted to have made Marr’s Guitars.

Membranes frontman and journalist John Robb has spoken to NME about his new book detailing the origins and rise of goth.The monolithic book has taken 10 years to write and looks at artists including Bauhaus, Nick Cave and The Cure and their place in building one of music’s most important scenes.“I’ve read a lot of books about the post-punk period and goth is always just dismissively kicked away,” Robb told NME. “It’s always really annoyed me that people have been quite sniffy about bands like Bauhaus or Killing Joke, despite them being some of the best art rock bands this country has produced. They were often looked down upon, all because they had a dark side and dressed up a bit.”Robb said that he hopes his book will do for goth what Jon Savage’s book, England’s Dreaming, did for punk in getting people to take it more seriously.

Mumford & Sons have been announced as the final headline act for this summer’s Victorious Festival.The event is due to take place on the Southsea seafront in Portsmouth between August 25-27. Franz Ferdinand‘s Alex Kapranos has shared details of a new six-part radio series.In August, Kapranos will join Absolute Radio to host a new series that will run every Sunday night at 10pm from August 7. Pearl Jam have announced a number of new additions to their BST Hyde Park shows next month.The gigs on July 8 and 9 will be the band’s biggest ever London shows. Pearl Jam were originally due to headline BST Hyde Park in 2021 alongside Duran Duran but the event was cancelled as a result of the COVID pandemic.Newly announced support acts for the shows include October Drift, Fatherson, LIFE and Daytime TV on July 8.
