In the opening scene, Culkin, 43, opens the door to his home and spots a little red bag on his doorstep. Bending down, Culkin opens the card to reveal a photo of his arch-nemeses Harry (Joe Pesci) and Marv (Daniel Stern) with the words: “We’re back little buddy.” Looking out at his neighborhood, Culkin spots the familiar battered “Oh-Kay Plumbing and Heating” van parked nearby — a sign that trouble is about to ensue.

Jaden Thompson Jack Huston’s directorial debut “Day of the Fight” will make its North American premiere as the opening film for the 46th Mill Valley Film Festival on Oct. 5. The film debuted at the Venice Film Festival, where Huston was honored with Variety’s Breakthrough Director Award.
For his feature directorial debut, Day of the Fight, Jack Huston has reteamed with his former Boardwalk Empire colleague Michael Pitt to tell the story a once celebrated boxer who takes a redemptive journey through his past and present on the day of his first bout since leaving prison.
The Huston dynasty has produced so many raw, undeniable talents that its younger members are undoubtedly among the very few “nepo babies” who can still come out of that exhausting discourse unscathed. We may even feel pity for them, sometimes, living as they do in the shadows of so many brilliant relatives.
Carole Horst Actor Jack Huston makes his directorial debut with the drama “The Day of the Fight,” starring Michael Pitt, in Venice’s Horizons Extra. The black and white film, set in the early 1980s, follows Mikey (Pitt) through his day as he prepares for a comeback fight at Madison Square Garden that night. But Mikey is preparing for something much bigger, as the screenplay – written by Huston – delves into his past, his relationships and all the pain, sorrow and joy they bring.

Especially now with the new technology and the AI and all of that kind of stuff… Is there a story to be told about how [McCall] became this person – the younger version. I’ve had that conversation with Richard Wenk [who co-wrote all three Equalizer films] quite a bit.”De-aging older actors has become commonplace in recent years, with an 80-year-old Harrison Ford getting the treatment for a flashback scene in Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny; and Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman aging down Robert De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino.
