Selena Kuznikov Tribeca Films, the distribution label from Tribeca Enterprises and Giant Pictures, has acquired eight films from different film festivals as part of its first round of acquisitions. “Tribeca has championed independent film for over two decades, and our distribution label is a continuation of our commitment to support filmmakers,” said Jane Rosenthal, Tribeca co-founder and chief executive officer.

Jack Dunn Tribeca Enterprises, SIC, the Portuguese broadcast company, its streaming service OPTO and the City of Lisbon have unveiled the first-ever European-edition of the Tribeca Festival, which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal from Oct. 17-19. The festival will kick off with an opening night celebration followed by a two-day event on Lisbon’s waterfront.

Tribeca Enterprises and Giant Pictures are launching Tribeca Films, a distribution label the partners said aims to support high-quality independent films from the festival circuit. The label is focused on U.S. transactional video-on-demand (TVOD) and advertising-based video-on-demand (AVOD) with the opportunity for distribution across Giant Pictures’ streaming infrastructure, as well as on the Tribeca Channel.

And this year is quite spectacular. So many of our programs have matured,” Rosenthal told Variety of this year’s Tribeca Festival while on the red carpet, shielded from the downpour. “The other thing is that, the past two years whether we were just coming out of the pandemic and did a hybrid festival, and then last year there were still COVID restrictions. This feels like it’s the Roaring Twenties. People are back and ready to party — partying in the streets and coming to screenings and it’s just been fantastic.”

Brent Lang Executive Editor Tribeca will release a newly restored edition of “A Bronx Tale,” the directorial debut of Robert De Niro. It will include exclusive interviews with De Niro, who starred in the film as well as directed it, and writer and star Chazz Palminteri, reflecting on how the movie has become a classic with audiences. They also recall the original production process, how the screenplay was adapted and the authenticity of the film’s characters .  “A Bronx Tale (30th Anniversary Edition)” will be available on 4K UHD Blu-Ray and video on demand platforms starting Sept. 12, 2023. For the first time, the film will be released in newly restored Ultra High Definition Dolby Vision and Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround sound. 

Robert De Niro is slated to star in “Bobby Meritorius,” a new crime drama in the works at Paramount+. The series comes from Paramount Television Studios, which made a commitment to develop the show in a competitive situation.

Robert Niro and his Tribeca Festival Co-Founder Jane Rosenthal have joined the chorus of calls for Iranian actress Taraneh Alidoosti to be released from prison, along with “other members of Iran’s art and entertainment community who have risked their lives to speak out against the government.”
