Alex Ritman Signature Entertainment has acquired the U.K. and Ireland rights to the Pete Davidson (“The King of Staten Island”) horror film ”The Home” from Miramax. The feature was produced by Bill Block(“Halloween Kills”) and Sébastian K.

And in honor of the film’s 10th Anniversary, DeMonaco joins The Playlist Podcast to talk about his 2013 hit and how a fractured country inspired him to make a film about people killing each other for sport.

He gained notoriety throughout his involvement in the topical ‘Purge’ films, directing the first three films and producing “The First Purge” and “The Forever Purge.” That franchises’ profitability under the Blumhouse banner has given the director the freedom to work on something new.

Look, I know people might be surprised to hear this, but it’s true–I’m an avid fan of the ‘Purge’ franchise. Even though the films are often seen as micro-budget horror-thrillers that aren’t top-tier entertainment, I’ll defend them to my dying breath.

EXCLUSIVE: The Purge franchise architect James DeMonaco has crafted a personal film, which is an ode to cinema, based in his hometown of Staten Island, entitled This Is the Night and the Blumhouse release has a one-week theatrical run starting this Friday, Sept. 17 at Angelika’s Village East in New York City before hitting PVOD on Sept. 21 via Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.

Blumhouse horror franchises (mostly) seem to be keen on mixing things up with subsequent films, often changing casts, settings, and stories. This is probably best seen in “The Purge” franchise, which has morphed from a home invasion thriller in the original to a large-scale action film series with serious messages about politics and society as a whole.

The Forever Purge is a dystopian action horror film and the fifth in the Purge series. It is a direct follow-up on The Purge: Election Year.

In 2018, “The First Purge” showed audiences how The New Founding Fathers of America (NFFA) first concocted its annual event where all crime becomes legal for 12 hours. Now, series creator James DeMonaco shows how the Purge continues even after its abolition in “The Forever Purge,” the fifth and final film in the dystopian franchise.
