Amazon’s Prime Video debuted a new feature called Dialogue Boost, which lets viewers increase the volume of dialogue relative to background music and effects, available on a limited selection of originals. According to Amazon, it initially built the feature for Prime Video customers who are hard of hearing but anyone can use the feature to suit their personal listening preferences. Similar dialogue-boosting features are available on high-end theater systems, specialized audio equipment and some smart TVs. However, Prime Video claims to be the first global streaming service to offer such a feature.

Prime Video dropped the official trailer for Tom Clancy’s “Jack Ryan,” the political thriller series is set to return with two episodes on Friday, June 30. The six-episode season will be available on the streamer, with the remaining four episodes dropping two each Friday, until the series finale on July 14. The fourth and final season will follow CIA Acting Deputy Director, Jack Ryan, who is tasked with uncovering an internal and national corruption conspiracy; per the official release, “Jack and the team investigate how deep the corruption runs, he discovers a far-worse reality—the convergence of a drug cartel with a terrorist organization—ultimately revealing a conspiracy much closer to home and testing our hero’s belief in the system he has always fought to protect.”

Prime Video‘s “Jack Ryan” has been a massive hit for the streaming service, and John Krasinski‘s take on the character will end this year. Developed by Carlton Cuse and Graham Roland, the show was the fifth adaptation of Tom Clancy‘s popular book series, which previously saw Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck, and Chris Pine play the character on the big screen in films like “The Hunt for Red October,” “Patriot Games,” “Clear and Present Danger,” “The Sum of All Fears,” and “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.” READ MORE: Summer 2023 TV Preview: 40 Must-See Shows To Watch “Jack Ryan” was the first televisual adaptation of Clancy’s material and saw Krasinski play the character for the entirety of the series, whose previous three seasons lasted eight episodes.

Deadline reported last year. The first two episodes of the final season will be released on Prime Video June 30, with two episodes releasing per week, leading up to the series finale on July 14. Jack Ryan’s season 3 finale aired just six months ago, but John Krasinski told TheWrap in December that the series’ creators elected to shoot the final two seasons back-to-back following a long break between seasons 2 and 3 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. “That was the whole idea, knowing that the fans would go so long in between two and three, we decided to do three and four back to back so that they wouldn’t have to wait that long again.”In the same interview, Krasinski said the final season will be a salute to the show’s ensemble cast.I think it’s really a celebration of this team, it’s a celebration of trust, and how nothing’s gonna get done if we can’t rely on each other. So it really was – probably the most ensemble of all the seasons is in Season 4, and how we all work together.

J. Kim Murphy Investigation Discovery has partnered with Michael Bay, with the filmmaker slated to executive produce a new true crime documentary series for the network. Kathleen Finch, chairman and chief content officer for the U.S. Networks Group at Warner Bros. Discovery, made the announcement Wednesday morning during the company’s Upfront presentation. The series is set to premiere in 2024 and will “expose a terrifying, yet little known, true crime story.” “When Michael Bay first approached us to collaborate on a true crime project, we instantly knew we wanted to join forces,” Jason Sarlanis, president of crime and investigative content for linear and streaming at ID, said in a statement. “Michael Bay is an incredibly dynamic filmmaker and producer whose vision and storytelling appeals to audiences far and wide. This partnership will be the perfect addition to our blockbuster nights on ID.”

Fans of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan won’t have to wait long for the series’ final chapter. The fourth and final season of the popular Prime Video series starring John Krasinski will premiere June 30, just over six months after the Dec. 21 release of Season 3. That is by far the shortest gap between seasons, compared to 1 year and 2 months (between Seasons 1 and 2) and 3 years and 2 months (between Seasons 2 and 3).

BreAnna Bell Showtime has announced its forthcoming spy drama, “Ghosts of Beirut,” will make its debut on Friday, May 19, on Showtime’s streaming site and will air on linear on May 21 at 10 p.m. ET/PT. The four-part limited series tells the origin story of 21-year old Mughniyeh (who is also referred to as “The Ghost”), an elusive Lebanese terrorist who evaded capture from the CIA and Mossad for two decades. He was responsible for more American deaths than any other individual prior to 9/11. “Told from the American, Israeli and Lebanese perspectives, the series traces Mughniyeh’s origins from the Shiite slums of South Beirut to his masterminding of the concept of suicide bombers, a deadly tactic that led to his swift rise as the world’s most dangerous terrorist. Based on extensive research of still-classified events, the drama spans decades and weaves in first-hand, real-life interviews with prominent officials from the CIA and Mossad, connecting the turmoil of 1980s Beirut with the spy games of the modern Middle East,” reads Showtime’s official description.

Joe Otterson TV Reporter Halcyon Studios has brought on Phil Abraham to direct and executive produce the series “Beverly Hills Noir,” Variety has learned exclusively. Halcyon, a division of Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment, is producing the show, which is based on “Gemstone” by James Ellroy. Per the official logline, the show “follows two female detectives as they are sucked into the vortex of power, greed, and cold-blooded conspiracy in one of the most aspirational cities in the world, Beverly Hills.” Ed Decter is writing the series and will also serve as executive producer and showrunner. Along with Decter and Abraham, Ellroy, Stewart Till, and Richard Potter also executive produce. No network or streaming service is currently attached to the project.

EXCLUSIVE: Wendell Pierce and Carra Patterson have been tapped as leads opposite Carrie Preston in the CBS drama pilot, Elsbeth. This completes the series regular cast for the pilot, from The Good Wife and The Good Fight EPs Robert and Michelle King, which centers on Patterson’s character of Elsbeth Tascioni that was introduced on The Good Wife and also appeared on spinoff The Good Fight.

While streaming still dominates television viewership in the U.S., broadcast gained momentum in January in part due to the NFL playoffs, according to Nielsen‘s monthly report The Gauge.

Michael Kelly (House of Cards, Jack Ryan), Shohreh Aghdashloo (The Expanse, House Of Sand And Fog) and Deirdre O’Connell (Outer Range, Dana H on Broadway) have been added to the HBO Max original series The Penguin (working title), from Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. They join previously cast Colin Farrell, who plays the title character, Cristin Milioti, who plays female lead Sofia Falcone, and Rhenzy Feliz, who is believed to be playing a teen whom The Penguin befriends and makes his driver.

Character details for the three actors remain under wraps. Kelly is best known for his roles in Netflix’s “House of Cards” and Amazon’s “Jack Ryan.” Aghdashloo earned critical acclaim for her performance in 2003’s “House of Sand and Fog” and starred in the Syfy series “The Expanse.” O’Connell won a Tony award last year for her performance in “Dana H.” and has appeared in numerous films and series since her first credits in the 1980s. The eight-episode limited series stars Colin Farrell, reprising his role as the eponymous comic book villain after first appearing in last year’s DC Studios feature “The Batman.” Variety exclusively reported that Farrell had signed on to star in a Penguin series in December 2021, with HBO Max officially ordering it in March 2022. The cast also includes Cristin Milioti and Rhenzy Feliz.

Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery is breaking Nielsen streaming records in the U.S. The film became the most-streamed movie in a measurement week from December 26 to January 1 (its first full week on Netflix), surpassing Hocus Pocus 2 and Wonder Woman 1984.

Paddy Considine (House of the Dragon, Peaky Blinders) and Mena Massoud (Aladdin, Jack Ryan) have signed on to star in the sports drama Giant, written and directed by Rowan Athale (The Rise, Gangs of London, Strange But True) with Sylvester Stallone and Braden Aftergood of Balboa Productions on board as executive producers.

In a very expected turn of events, Netflix’s Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery debuted atop Nielsen’s U.S. streaming charts for the week of December 19 to December 25.

Season 3 of the series hits the streamer later this month, just in time for the holidays.
