Morrissey has said he has bought back the rights to two of his albums, after a long-running dispute with his label Capitol Records.The former Smiths frontman has been locked in battle with Capitol for a number of years, after his album ‘Bonfire Of Teenagers’ went unreleased, despite being completed in 2021.The album had been announced for a 2023 release on Capitol, but Morrissey later said he had “voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records”. He also revealed that Miley Cyrus, who recorded backing vocals for the track ‘I Am Veronica’ in 2020, had asked to have her vocals removed from the song.But now, in a post on his website Morrissey Central, titled ‘A Rush And A Push And The Music Is Ours’, in reference to a 1987 Smiths song, he has said that he has bought the rights to release that album.“Morrissey has paid the exit fee to Capitol Records in order to return both WORLD PEACE IS NONE OF YOUR BUSINESS and BONFIRE OF TEENAGERS albums back to him,” the post reads.“It’s been a long, hard, bloody war.

MC5 manager John Sinclair has died, aged 82.His representative, Matt Lee, confirmed the late poet and political activist’s passing this morning (April 2) at Detroit Receiving Hospital following congestive heart failure, reports The Detroit News.Sinclair was an influential activist who was best known for his fight toward legalising marijuana in the US and for his role in MC5. The Davison native was also a champion of civil rights and co-founder of the radical anti-racist group the White Panther Party.The late activist also helped launch Iggy Pop And The Stooges.

Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan has revealed how Iggy Pop helped him through a “bad mushroom trip” when he was a teenager.While appearing on the Rockonteurs podcast, hosted by Spandau Ballet’s Gary Kemp and esteemed session musician Guy Pratt, McKagan opened up about the event that occurred when he was 14 years old and how the former Stooges frontman helped him out.“Iggy Pop got me through a bad mushroom trip. Pearl Jam‘s Mike McCready has teased the band’s forthcoming album, revealing that it’s “heavier than you’d expect”.The band’s record-in-progress is the follow-up to 2020’s ‘Gigaton’ and McCready offered some details about the album in a recent interview with Classic Rock.“I’m hoping it’s gonna come out [in 2024],” McCready said. “We have a bunch of songs tracked. We worked with Andrew Watt, who’s a younger pop producer-type guy, but he’s really a rock guy at heart — I think we’re his favorite band.

Josh Homme has opened up about the possibility of teaming up with Iggy Pop again in the future, after they worked together on 2016’s ‘Post Pop Depression’.That album saw Homme and Iggy come together on an initially secretive project, alongside Homme’s Queens of the Stone Age bandmate Dean Fertita and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders. The album was highly praised, placing in NME’s Top 10 Albums of 2016 list, and it became Iggy’s highest charting solo album to date.Now, in a new interview with NME, Homme and Fertita have spoken about the likelihood of a potential follow-up to the project. Cat Power and Iggy Pop have covered ‘Working Class Hero’ in an upcoming tribute album to Marianne Faithfull.Back in November, it was announced that a Faithfull covers album was in the works, with the likes of Shirley Manson and Peaches set to duet on ‘Why D’Ya Do It’.Now, Cat Power and Iggy Pop have teamed up to cover ‘Working Class Hero’, originally written by John Lennon and covered by Faithfull herself in her album ‘Broken English’ (1979).In a statement, Power said of Faithfull: “Marianne has lived a life!! Duran Duran, Blondie and Interpol have been announced as the headliners of Cruel World Festival 2024. The festival revealed its 2024 line-up yesterday (December 4), which will also feature ‘80s and ‘80s post-punk, new wave and alternative rock veterans, including Simple Minds, Placebo, Soft Cell, Adam Ant, The Jesus and Mary Chain, and Ministry, who will perform songs from their earliest albums, ‘With Sympathy’ and ‘Twitch’.

U2 frontman Bono has shared a further update on their forthcoming new album, reiterating that it will be “an unreasonable guitar record”.It comes over a year after he previously expressed his desire to release “a noisy, uncompromising, unreasonable guitar album”, citing AC/DC as an influence.Now in a new interview, he has also said that as well being “an unreasonable guitar record” it will also come with “big choruses”.He told MOJO magazine: “I announced it, without discussion, as ‘an unreasonable guitar record’. And Edge called me up and goes, ‘How unreasonable?’ And I said, ‘As unreasonable as you’re ready to take it.’“I don’t think the world is waiting on the next U2 album,” Bono added.

Tom Waits is set to join Iggy Pop for a rare interview, which will span two hours on BBC 6 Music.The discussion will mark one of the first new interviews the iconic American singer-songwriter has taken part in during recent years, and will see him co-host a special show with punk veteran Iggy Pop.Taking place on Sunday, December 3, the show will air on BBC Radio 6 Music between 4pm and 6pm. Iggy Pop has joined forces with Trevor Horn to share a gritty cover of ‘Personal Jesus’ – check it out below.Shared by Depeche Mode back in 1990, the track has since gone on to be a fan favourite for the band and has been covered by an extensive list of other famous faces, including Johnny Cash.Now, Iggy Pop has become the latest to cover the iconic track and joined forces with Trevor Horn to create a more gritty, rustic version of the original.Surprisingly, the cover alongside the renowned record producer and musician marks the first time that the former frontman of The Stooges has put his name to the track – and the finished product sees him put a noticeably more rockabilly spin on the original.Check it out below.Shared as part of Horn’s forthcoming covers album, ‘Echoes – Ancient & Modern’, the cover with Iggy Pop stemmed from the singer wanting to try recording various approaches to his performance and stitch them all together to create a more rustic final result.“[Iggy] said: ‘I’ve heard the track, I’m going to do three takes where I gradually get crazier and crazier and then a fourth take where I speak it and that will be it. Duff McKagan has shared his hopes for there being a guitar band one day that has the same impact as Guns N’Roses.In a new interview with Classic Rock, the bassist addresses the subject of rock’n’roll’s future and he reveals his view of things remains optimistic.“Man, I hope so,” he said. “I see these young people coming out to Guns show, and I’m, like, ‘Man, it’s cool you’re coming to see us, but there should be a band that’s 21 or 22 that you’re fucking losing your shit to.’ I don’t know if it’ll be the same, but I fucking hope so.”Elsewhere in the same interview, he goes into detail about his longstanding musical relationship with Iggy Pop. Pat Saperstein Deputy Editor Lovers of ’80s music in the synth-pop and post-punk genres rejoiced Saturday as a stuffed roster including Iggy Pop, Gang of Four, Love and Rockets, Echo and the Bunnymen and the Human League performed at the Cruel World festival in Pasadena. The festival had an unexpected second evening of performances on Sunday after lightning cut short Saturday night’s show before Siouxsie was able to play. It’s not an easy job to give the faithful fans what they want while avoiding sounding like a Totally ’80s greatest hits sampler. Most of the attendees had four decades of hearing these bands under their studded belts, recognizing many of the songs from the very first jangly chord. Though many of the acts have released new music in the ensuing 40 or so years, the audience wasn’t really there to make new discoveries, and the bands obliged with tight sets heavy on MTV staples.
