Post Malone, Morgan Wallen and Hardy took the stage together at Wednesday’s CMA Awards to pay tribute to the late country legend Joe Diffie. Wallen and Hardy started together, running through Diffie’s 1993 song “John Deere Green,” before welcoming Malone to the stage to sing the 1994 hit “Pickup Man” as a trio. The Best of Tony Bennett: 15 Essential Musical Moments to Lose Your Heart To

A.D. Amorosi Tony Bennett was the last man standing – the saloon crooner, the jazz interpreter, the subtlest of stylists of the Great American Songbook, the man that Sinatra called the greatest popular singer in the world.“Your old man takes chances” is what Frank Sinatra told Danny Bennett, Tony’s son and manager. “When others zig, Tony zags,” said Danny. Those risks involved the vocal dynamics of grandeur (no Tony Bennett concert was complete without him shutting down all amplification, singing a cappella without a mic, and rocking the room), of pensive emotional nuance, of a whisper’s near-silence. With Bennett’s passing on Friday morning at age 96, after his struggle with Alzheimer’s since 2016 and retirement from the stage in 2021, his era of grace and elegance in vocal song is gone. He left a rich, long body of work that will last forever. Choosing 150, let alone 15, of Tony Bennett’s finest musical moments is a tough call to make with early sweeping singles such as “Because of You” and jazzy signatures such as “I Left My Heart in San Francisco.” So Variety has mixed the hits with the rarities in touching on his legendary career.“Cold Cold Heart” (1951)Country songwriter Hank Williams had only written and released his melancholy romancer a year before Tony Bennett made it into a smash pop hit. But with its bold-faced vocal clarity and his tear-in-your-beer warble, it’s not hard to hear that an original interpretive singer was on his way up, and that he wore diversity on his sleeve as a song selector.

‘Wes Anderson’s ‘Asteroid City’ Soundtrack Features Jarvis Cocker, Alexandre Desplat, Bing Crosby & More

Wes Anderson’s soundtracks were initially known for their Rolling Stones, David Bowie, The Who, and lots of ’60s and 70s rock at first. Eventually, that started to change; Anderson split with composer Mark Mothersbaugh, found a new ally in French composer Alexandre Desplat, and the music choices were less immediately identifiable, not quite as conventionally hip, but still tasteful choices (think the use of Hank Williams in “Moonrise Kingdom,” The Bobby Fuller Band in “Fantastic Mr.

Dolly Parton honors her roots: 'Country music is my gut, my heart, my soul'

Dolly Parton is, without a doubt, one of the most iconic country stars of all time. With hits like "Jolene," "My Tennessee Mountain Home" and "I Will Always Love You," she has cemented her spot in country music history, and Parton talked to Fox News Digital about what the genre means to her. "There'll always be country music," Parton said, "and there'll always be a few artists that are still influenced by the old-time Hank Williams type, all the Merle Haggards and all the, you know, the old country and even back farther, but certainly will say Hank Williams and all those wonderful songs he wrote.

‘Shucked’: How Actor Kevin Cahoon Found a Rare Nudie Suit for Premiere of New Broadway Show (EXCLUSIVE)

Jazz Tangcay Artisans Editor Actor Kevin Cahoon donned a famous Nudie Suit by iconic tailor Nudie Cohn to the Broadway red carpet premiere of “Shucked.“ The decorative rhinestone-covered suits — made famous by Elvis, Hank Williams and Post Malone — were on loan to Cahoon, who plays Peanut in the show, from Nudie’s Rodeo Tailors in Hollywood. The musical is filled with catchy numbers and, as the title suggests, is about corn. It’s set in the fictional Corn Cob County, a small-town Southern haven surrounded by… corn. “‘Shucked’ is a brand new, completely original, rhinestoned, star-spangled, American musical with its roots planted firmly in the country, its heart celebrating all of the Nashville greats that have come before, and I am in it,” Cahoon tells Variety. “What in Cob County do you wear?”

At the start of this year Rolling Stone ran a list of The 200 Greatest Singers of All Time. Celine Dion fans, for example, were so outraged by her not making the list in any capacity that they protested outside the publication's offices.

Mitchell Tenpenny’s Dual No. 1 Country Hits in 2022 Uphold a Family Legacy Started by the Matriarch of Music Row

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic The most famous “family tradition” in country music would have to be the intergenerational legacy of the Hank Williams clan. Right now, though, there’s another scion of Nashville royalty making good as a third-generation success: singer-songwriter Mitchell Tenpenny, who made modern chart history by managed to have two different No. 1 country airplay hits within the last month. But the rhetorical questions made famous by Hank Jr. — “Why do you drink? Why do you roll smoke?” — don’t apply in this case, as Tenpenny’s forebears in the business are a pair of strong but morally upstanding women: his grandmother, the late Donna Hilley, who capped a 31-year career at Sony/ATV Music Publishing by serving as CEO from 1994-2005, and his mother, Debbie Tenpenny, who currently works at Sony Music Publishing.
