Joe Otterson TV ReporterWhen Jamie Hector heard the true story of the dirty cops at the heart of the new HBO limited series “We Own This City,” it wasn’t the corruption that surprised him.“What surprised me was how well-documented it was,” Hector told Variety.“We Own This City” is based on Justin Fenton’s book of the same name. It tells the true story of the Baltimore Gun Trace Task Force, who routinely robbed drug dealers and citizens alike while also re-selling drugs they confiscated on the job.

It’s disappointing to report that, contrary to its IMDb page, Treat Williams does not appear in all six episodes of “We Own This City,” George Pelecanos and David Simon’s new HBO miniseries, adapted from the book by Justin Fenton. As you probably assumed already, you won’t be getting a follow-up to HBO‘s excellent and underrated Baltimore-set crime series “The Wire,” though there had been some confusion last year. Last Spring, the French outlet Society interviewed “The Wire” creator David Simon, and he revealed he was working on another Baltimore series, leading people to assume, hope, and “deduce,” that there was a potential sequel series in the works (though the Baltimore Sun shot down those theories quickly).

However, behind these new efforts, a criminal conspiracy of unprecedented scale was unfolding within the police department. Entrusted with fixing the city’s drug and gun crisis, Jenkins chose to exploit it instead.
