Kanye West appears to rap about Venice boat scandal on new ‘Vultures 1’ song ‘Fuck Sumn’

Kanye West appeared to address last year’s controversial Venice boat exposure incident on his new ‘Vultures 1‘ song ‘Fuck Sumn’.West and his partner Bianca Censori caused controversy last year after they were caught in a compromising position on a boat in Italy, with reports later emerging that they were being investigated by police. The pair were photographed on a water taxi in August showing West’s trousers pulled down with Censori’s head in his lap. They were reportedly “banned for life” from using the boat company after the incident.West – who now goes by Ye – and Ty Dolla $ign finally released their much-delayed controversial new collaborative album ‘Vultures 1’ this month, which features Lil Durk, Bump J, Freddie Gibbs, Quavo and more. The 10th song on the album, ‘Fuck Sumn’ featuring Travis Scott and Playboi Carti, appears to make reference to the Venice scandal. In the second verse, West raps: “Hold my coat, hold my drink/ On my own, come with me/ Shawty wanna fuck on somethin’?/ Fuck on me, suck on me publicly.”West announced the release this month by sharing the album artwork, which appears to show him in all-black and a hockey mask alongside by Censori in the nude.West has previously received criticism for sharing photos of his reported wife in either the nude or revealing attire – with System Of A Down drummer John Dolmayan telling him to “show some class“, adding: “Your wife isn’t supposed to be your trophy, she’s your place of pride and dignity. This isn’t the way”.The new album has continued to stir up controversy, after Donna Summer’s estate criticised West for using an ‘I Feel Love’ sample without permission.

However, the record – the first in an instalment of three – has now been released on Apple Music, Amazon Music, TIDAL and Spotify. He still makes an art out of violent imagery (on the potent ‘Flat Tummy Tea’ he threatens to use a sword to knock “white Jesus” off a horse), but now has developed much more of a philosophical edge, too.

Grammy Awards’ Rap Race: Can Anyone Best Kendrick Lamar?

Kyle Eustice For the first time in … well, maybe ever, hip-hop fans applauded the Recording Academy in 2021 for “getting it right.” Nominees in the rap album category included unconventional releases that weren’t necessarily expected to get the nod: Freddie Gibbs and the Alchemist’s critically acclaimed “Alfredo,” D Smoke’s “Black Habits,” Royce Da 5’9’s “The Allegory,” Jay Electronica’s long-awaited debut, “A Written Testimony,” and the winner, Nas’ “King’s Disease,” which netted the mighty 25-year vet his first Grammy.  The following year’s noms followed suit, with mentions going to Tyler, the Creator’s “Call Me if You Get Lost,” Nas’ “King Disease II,” J. Cole’s “The Off-Season,” Kanye West’s “Donda” and Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy” (although the famous Grammy skeptic decided to withdraw the project before the votes were cast). Now the question remains: Will the streak continue?

Revered Rapper Freddie Gibbs: ‘It Goes Whitney Houston, Luther Vandross, Then Me’

Yousef Srour Freddie Gibbs is “The Mack” of hip-hop — hunched over a grand piano, two ice cubes in his old fashioned, white dress shirt unbuttoned to his torso, Big Boss Rabbit chain glistening across his neck. Slightly off-tune on purpose, he croons classic soul songs, from The Jackson Five’s “One More Chance” to Stan Smith’s “Stay With Me” to TLC’s “Waterfalls,” but there’s one exception: he wrote them. “Oooh, baby give me one more chance” transforms into “Oooh, baby give me one more gram,” as Gibbs gives them the Freddie Corleone treatment. In tandem with the emergence of Blaxploitation films in the early 1970s, artists among the likes of Richard Pryor and Ron O’Neal have lent their hand as the comedic relief to tales of pimps and gangsters, dealing crack to their respective communities. Freddie wants you to ask yourself: “Is it entertainment or is it an autobiography?” Blurring the line between fact and fiction, “Soul Sold Separately” finds Freddie Gibbs on the Kane Train once again, running hijinks, opening fire and selling cocaine at the $$$ Casino.

In videos captured by partygoers, West appeared in good spirits as he took over the DJ booth and adjusted the equalizers on the turntables while a few seconds of a song began to play. He cut the track shortly after those seconds but played a song for a bit longer after that (difficult to decipher whether it was the same one or different). Fans quickly drew comparisons that the longer track previewed sounded like the 2016 Blake track “Always.”

Bartees Strange puts a folky spin on Freddie Gibbs’ swagger with ‘Gang Signs’ cover

Bartees Strange is the latest to drop a single exclusively on Amazon Music, putting his blues-imbued folk spin on Freddie Gibbs’ ScHoolboy Q-assisted single ‘Gang Signs’.For his new take on the song, the Ipswich, England-born, Oklahoma-raised indie-rocker locks into the feel of the original track’s gentle, groove-driven instrumental. He reappropriates the melody with crisp and roomy electric guitars, noodling away while he emulates Gibbs’ biting swagger with his rapped verses. In a Tweet shared upon the track’s release, Strange said he “loved covering this song by two of the hardest”.
