After six years on our screens as nurse Lucille Robinson, Call the Midwife star Leonie Elliot has reportedly left the show to embark on new projects. The much-loved midwife has been a staple of Sunday night viewing in recent years, as she delighted fans with her warm personality and caring ways. However fans haven’t seen her on screen since the second episode of the current series, when it was revealed that Lucille was suffering from severe depression and had made the decision to leave the streets of Poplar to return home to Jamaica. The devastating bout of depression followed Lucille’s miscarriage and was also set against the backdrop of Enoch Powell’s infamous “rivers of blood” speech which highlighted the growing racial tensions of the time period.
