Caroline Brew editor National Geographic has signed a first-look deal with Emmy- and Peabody Award-winning production company Muck Media for unscripted series and specials. Muck and National Geographic have previously collaborated on “Trafficked With Mariana van Zeller,” which is nominated for nine Emmys at the 2023 News & Documentary Emmy Awards. In “Trafficked,” van Zeller investigates shadow markets, criminal organizations and trafficking networks around the world.

Muck Media is expanding its relationship with National Geographic. The Emmy- and Peabody-winning production company has signed a first-look deal with the network for unscripted series and specials.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large The Golden Globes has found its production team for the 2024 ceremony: Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner, of White Cherry Entertainment, will serve as executive producers and showrunners for the 81st Golden Globe Awards. The event, previously announced to take place live on Sunday, Jan. 7, 2024, does yet not have a broadcast home, having cut ties with NBC after the 2023 show.

Multi-Emmy-winning producing duo Glenn Weiss and Ricky Kirshner have been tapped as executive producing showrunners for the 81st Golden Globe Awards. Weiss also is set to direct the live show on Sunday, January 7, 2024.    

Longtime CBS New York chief medical correspondent Dr. Max Gomez, affectionately known as Dr. Max, died Saturday after a long illness, the station reported. He was 72.

Wolf Blitzer and director-producer Barbara Kopple will be this year’s Lifetime Achievement Honorees at the 44th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences said Tuesday.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large CNN news anchor Wolf Blitzer and Oscar-winning director/producer Barbara Kopple are this year’s recipients of the 44th annual News & Documentary Emmy Awards lifetime achievement honors, the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences was set to announce on Tuesday. The News & Doc Emmys take place over two days next month in New York: Blitzer will receive his honor at the news ceremony on Wednesday, Sept. 27, and Kopple’s Emmy will be presented at the documentary ceremony on Thursday, September 28.

Michael Schneider Variety Editor at Large CNN leads this year’s News & Documentary Emmy nominations, with 45 overall — including seven for “Anderson Cooper 360.” Meanwhile, “Vice News Tonight,” which was canceled this spring, landed 28 nominations — helping Vice News score a total of 30, good enough for second place among outlets. Among broadcasters, ABC and PBS were tops at 26 nominations each.
