The best in independent film and television were honored at the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards!

On her first feature film try, Celine Song struck gold with the time-hopping romantic drama Past Lives.

Alex Ritman “May December” breakout Charles Melton has lined up another major feature and is set to star alongside Elizabeth Olsen in Todd Solondz‘s next film, the darkly comic “Love Child.” Killer Films (“Past Lives,” “May December”), 2AM (“Past Lives”) Volition Media (“Sam and Kate,” “Land of Bad”) and Gramercy Park Media (“The Fabulous Four,” “Blood for Dust”) are teaming with Rocket Science to bring the project to this week’s European Film Market. “Love Child” follows Misty, who is stuck in a loveless marriage to a brutish husband. Junior, her precocious 11-year-old is her only consolation.

The full list of nominations for the 2024 Film Independent Spirit Awards has been announced!

Jordan Moreau The 2024 Independent Spirit Awards nominations, which honor TV and indie films with smaller budgets, were announced Tuesday morning. Joel Kim Booster and Natalie Morales revealed the nominations. “Saturday Night Live” alum Aidy Bryant will host the awards show on Feb.

After a period of speculation prolonged by the double strike, A24 has officially confirmed the cast set for its erotic thriller Babygirl, marking a reteam with Bodies Bodies Bodies helmer Halina Reijn. Nicole Kidman (The Undoing), Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory) and Harris Dickinson (The Iron Claw) lead an ensemble that also includes Talk to Me‘s Sophie Wilde and Jean Reno (Léon: The Professional).

Amidst a disrupted industry at the start of the Covid pandemic, the hope amongst producers Christine Vachon, Pamela Koffler and David Hinojosa was simply to stay engaged. This, they accomplished by reading the best scripts at their disposal — among them Past Lives, which would mark the feature debut of playwright Celine Song.

Bleecker Street has picked up North American rights to Laurel Parmet’s feature directorial debut The Starling Girl following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, slating it for release in theaters later this year. Financials weren’t disclosed.

A24 has tapped Brandy Norwood, Andrew Burnap and Kathryn Hunter to star in the “The Front Room,” with Neal Huff also joining the cast.The Eggers Brothers – consisting of director Robert Eggers’ twin younger brothers Max and Sam – will make their directorial debut with the psychological horror film. They will also write the screenplay.Adapted from Susan Hill’s short story of the same name, “The Front Room” revolves around a young, newly pregnant couple who is forced to take in a sickly stepmother who has long been estranged from the family.A24 is set to produce and handle the film’s global release.

A24 is teaming up with filmmakers Max Eggers (The Lighthouse) and Sam Eggers (Olympia) — otherwise known as The Eggers Brothers —  on their feature directorial debut, The Front Room, a psychological horror pic that will star Brandy Norwood (Queens), Kathryn Hunter (The Tragedy of Macbeth), Andrew Burnap (Snow White) and Neal Huff (Waves).

Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Brandy Norwood is set to star in A24’s “The Front Room,” a psychological horror film from directors Max and Sam Eggers. The Eggers brothers, whose older sibling Robert Eggers has collaborated with A24 on “The Witch” and “The Lighthouse,” will be directing in their feature filmmaking debut. They adapted the screenplay from Susan Hill’s short story of the same name. “The Front Room” follows a young, newly pregnant couple forced to take in an ailing stepmother who has long been estranged from the family.  Along with Norwood, the ’90s music icon who is also of “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” “Moesha” and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella” fame, is co-starring alongside Kathryn Hunter (“The Tragedy of Macbeth”), Andrew Burnap (“WeCrashed,” Broadway’s “The Inheritance”) and Neal Huff (“Spotlight”).

The Sundance Institute has named the participants for its 2022 Producers Lab and Summit, both of which are set to take place in person this year at Utah’s Sundance Mountain Resort.

The already tense party takes a turn for the horrifying when the guests play a murder-in-the-dark game that ends with a real-life murder, forcing Sophie, Bee and their friends to investigate who’s responsible.Stenberg and Bakalova lead the ensemble cast of actors who portray the party guests, which includes Myha’la Herrold (“Industry”), Rachel Sennott (“Shiva Baby”), Chase Sui Wonders (“Generation”), Pete Davidson (“Saturday Night Live”) and Lee Pace (“Foundation”).
