‘The Exorcist: Believer’ review: Dir. David Gordon Green (2023)

Very rarely do iconic horror movies escape the remake treatment at some point in their franchise legacy. Such classics as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, A Nightmare On Elm Street, Halloween and The Omen have all been treated (or fallen victim to, depending on your opinion) to a remake, but there are some that simply seem to be untouchable. The Exorcist, directed by the late great William Friedkin 50 years ago, is one such sacred text. However, just because everyone respects it, doesn’t mean you can’t franchise it, with The Exorcist inspiring a number of sequels, prequels and TV shows, stopping short of going for a full-blown remake.

Marta Balaga UTA has boarded sales on Mark H. Rapaport’s Fantasia premiere “Hippo.” “We are very excited for this one,” said UTA’s Billy Offer, admitting a number of distributors have already expressed interest. “It’s so oddly relatable and so singular in its approach, and vision, that I really wanted to help make sure it got the right platform to shine. Fantasia is a perfect launchpad for this type of film.”   Produced by Kinematics in association with Rough House Pictures, it counts Danny McBride and David Gordon Green among its executive producers.

EXCLUSIVE: Tye Sheridan is launching his new production company, Dogwood Pictures with its debut film, Black Flies, is set to play in competition at the 76th Annual Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Jean-Stéphane Sauvaire, the pic reunites Sheridan with Sean Penn after over a decade since Malick’s The Tree of Life. Sheridan first became involved with the film in 2018 and continued on throughout the film’s execution and release.
