EXCLUSIVE: Apple Original Films And Skydance Media’s partnership looks to be building on its already strong slate with another A-list star at the center of it. Sources tell Deadline, Apple has landed The Family Plan, a new action-comedy feature from Skydance Media, starring Academy Award-nominee Mark Wahlberg with Simon Cellan Jones directing. The film will reunite Wahlberg with director Jones following their recent collaboration on Arthur the King.

Written by David Coggeshall, who is writing the film “Matchbox” for Skydance and Mattel, “The Family Plan,” tells the story of a suburban dad who must take his family on the run when his past catches up to him. Simon Cellan Jones will direct after previously collaborating with Wahlberg in “Arthur the King.”Wahlberg will produce with Stephen Levinson through his Municipal Pictures banner along with Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger.This year, Apple became the first streamer to win the Best Picture Oscar with the Sundance acquisition “CODA,”  Upcoming features from Apple include “Green Book” director Peter Farrelly’s “The Greatest Beer Run Ever,” starring Zac Efron and Russell Crowe; “Raymond & Ray,” starring Ewan McGregor and Ethan Hawke; “Spirited,” a modern musical adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol” starring Ryan Reynolds, Will Ferrell and Octavia Spencer; and the recently announced “Causeway,” a new film starring and produced by Jennifer Lawrence and directed by Lila Neugebauer that will get a theatrical and streaming release later this year.Wahlberg is repped by WME and Leverage.

A live-action “Matchbox” movie, inspired by the iconic real-world die-cast toy vehicle line, is being developed by Skydance Media and Mattel Films, the companies announced on Tuesday.The screenplay will be written by three-time Black Lister David Coggeshall, who wrote the upcoming “Orphan: First Kill” for Paramount as well as Lee Daniels’s untitled Netflix possession thriller filming in Pittsburgh and drafts of “Thundercats” for Warner Bros.“For nearly 70 years, Matchbox has carried enormous cultural relevance and inspired generations of kids to unleash their imaginations, combining what they see in the world every day with what they dream their own world to be,” Mattel Films executive producer Robbie Brenner said in a statement. “We look forward to working with our incredible partners at Skydance Media to craft a story for the big screen that evokes the same, imaginative spirit of this beloved Mattel franchise and delights fans of all ages.”Feature Films of Skydance president Don Granger added: “We are thrilled to be working with Robbie Brenner and her amazing creative team at Mattel.

Angelique Jackson Lee Daniels has tapped Omar Epps, Demi Singleton, Miss Lawrence and Anthony B. Jenkins to join the cast of his upcoming exorcism thriller “The Deliverance” for Netflix.The group joins previously announced stars Andra Day, Glenn Close, Mo’Nique, Aunjanue Ellis, Caleb McLaughlin and Tasha Smith in the film, which is inspired by a terrifying true story.

Deadline.Daniels wrote the film with David Coggeshall and Elijah Bynum, and though no title or plot details have officially been revealed, it’s said to be a true horror story. Deadline also reported that the film will star Day as an Indiana mother whose children supposedly became possessed by a demonic presence and that the story is rooted in a real case.
