EXCLUSIVE: The next chapter of Descendants is coming to Disney+. The streaming service has given a green light to The Pocketwatch (working title), a music- and dance-filled original movie sequel to the megahit Descendants franchise.

Selome Hailu “Descendants: The Rise of Red” is set for a July 12 premiere, as revealed in a new teaser. The Disney+ film stars Kylie Cantrall as Red, princess of the hostile kingdom of Wonderland and the newest Villain Kid (aka VK) at Auradon Prep. When her mother, the tyrannical Queen of Hearts (Rita Ora), incites a coup against Auradon, Red must join forces with Chloe (Cinderella and King Charming’s daughter played by Malia Baker) to travel back in time and undo the traumatic event that set the queen down her villainous path.

reported the news in an exclusive report.Lead duo Montalban and Brandy Norwood will return to their roles of fairytale couple King Charming and Cinderella alongside Rita Ora as the Queen of Hearts who “rules over the kingdom of Wonderland with an iron fist.”Montalban first starred as Prince Christopher in “Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella” (1997) alongside Norwood as Cinderella with the late Whitney Houston playing the Fairy Godmother. Other ensemble cast members included Whoopi Goldberg, Victor Barger, Natalie Desselle Reid, Bernadette Peters and Jason Alexander.“The Rise of Red” will bring viewers back to Auradon and the Isle of Lost, where the “Descendants” franchise begins.

The streamer announced the news on Tuesday.“The Pocketwatch” will follow Red, the whip-smart and rebellious teenage daughter of the Queen of Hearts, and Chloe, the perfectionist and athletic daughter of Cinderella and Prince Charming.
