featuring the same primary hosts, content, format, segments, and more, and sold that virtually identical show to REELZ, a cable network seeking its first breakout hit, which then aired the show over AETN’s repeated and vociferous objections,” the complaint continued.Reelz said in a statement it had not been served with nor had a chance to review the lawsuit in detail and “thus has no comment at this time beyond denying liability and expressing its ongoing commitment to ‘On Patrol: Live.'”A&E’s complaint claims Reelz and other defendants did not “bring back” “Live PD,” but that they “co-opted AETN’s intellectual property.”“On Patrol: Live” premiered July 22 on Reelz with returning anchor Dan Abrams. “Live PD” was canceled by A&E and producer Big Fish Entertainment in June 2020 following the death of George Floyd.
Gene Maddaus Senior Media Writer A&E filed a lawsuit seeking to block rival network Reelz from airing “On Patrol: Live,” which it claims is a blatant ripoff of its own show, “Live PD.” Both shows feature live footage from police ride-alongs, both are hosted by Dan Abrams, and both are produced by the same company. A&E canceled “Live PD” — one of its top-rated shows — in June 2020, at the height of protests over the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis. Reelz debuted its version of the show last month. In the lawsuit, A&E argues that “On Patrol: Live” copies nearly every aspect of its own show’s format, down to specific catchphrases. The Reelz show even occupies “Live PD’s” old time slot.
NewsNation interview released Tuesday.“I never contacted any media who were covering my brother to try to affect their coverage,” the former CNN host told Dan Abrams, noting that he talked to people in the media “all the time.”Cuomo also insisted that he “never lied and there were no secrets” regarding his involvement in his brother’s sexual harassment scandal. When Abrams pressed Cuomo on whether he did make calls to the press, Cuomo insisted that there was a “meaning difference” between talking to the press and trying to influence their coverage of the controversy surrounding his brother.“The concern would be, not that I called you and said ‘what do you think is going on?’ It’s me calling you and saying ‘hey, tonight in your segment I hope you remember that-,” said Cuomo, before being interrupted by Abrams. The journalist, who was fired from CNN in December 2021, also pointed to his commitment to his family and “love” for his brother that led Cuomo to advise his brother on allegations of sexual harassment.“The rule in my family is very simple: family, trouble, goal,” said Cuomo, “For me it was about helping my brother in a hard way and doing it in a way that I didn’t think compromised what matters. That’s what guided me.”Despite his termination from the popular news organization, Cuomo said he does not feel like he is a victim of cancel culture, saying “I don’t feel sorry for myself; I’m certainly not a victim.”The interview comes a week after Cuomo launched a podcast titled “The Chris Cuomo Project” after teasing a comeback.
