SpaceX delivered two astronauts to the International Space Station for NASA on Sunday, following up a historic liftoff with an equally smooth docking in yet another first for Elon Musk’s company. With test pilots Doug Hurley and Bob Behnken poised to take over manual control if necessary, the SpaceX Dragon capsule pulled up to the station and docked automatically, no assistance needed.

The SpaceX rocket has completed an important step in its historic journey and successfully docked with the International Space Station.

Katy Perry knows a thing or two about extraterrestrials, so of course she supported the SpaceX launch Wednesday (May 27) by appearing on the Space Launch Live: America Returns to Space star-studded broadcast.

SpaceX will make history today with its first astronaut launch. Elon Musk's aerospace company is partnering with NASA to send its first crew into orbit in a test flight to the International Space Station called Demo-2. This will mark America's first return to the station in nine years from our own soil.

America will meet a couple of milestone moments on Wednesday as a spacecraft carrying astronauts takes off from U.S. soil for the first time since 2011 — and for the first time from a commercial, non-government spacecraft. 

Meet Doug Hurley, a 53-year-old veteran astronaut who’s about to accomplish something phenomenal on May 27. Along with friend and colleague Bob Behnken, Hurley will be part of the first space mission from the United States since the retirement of space shuttles in 2011.

For space aficionados, May 27, 2020, will be an epic day. It will mark the first time the United States has launched its own astronauts into space since the end of the Space Shuttle Program in 2011.
