Green Day on the “bummer” of their pre-‘American Idiot’ album ‘Cigarettes & Valentines’ being stolen

Green Day have reflected on the “bummer” of their pre-‘American Idiot’ album ‘Cigarettes & Valentines’ being stolen more than 20 years ago, while also noting that it was a “blessing” in disguise. The unreleased record was written and recorded in 2003, but the master tapes were stolen when it was close to being finished.Instead of being the follow-up to 2000’s ‘Warning’, they released their seminal ‘American Idiot’ in 2004.“They were just gone,” said Tré Cool of the ‘Cigarettes And Valentines’ recordings in a new interview with Audacy, “so somebody probably stole them – maybe didn’t know what was on them”.“I’ve never heard that ever happening to anybody,” added frontman Billie Joe Armstrong. “It was a bummer, for sure.

Green Day have criticised the notion of finding new music “via algorithms”, such as on TikTok, as “lazy”.The legendary rock trio have said in a new interview that they think listeners can miss out on a broader spectrum of new music if they’re reliant on social media to discover emerging artists.“Social media is great for kids but if you’re finding your music via algorithms then that’s just lazy,” bassist Mike Dirnt told The Sun. “I like to organically find new things. All I can say is just clear your search history to find new [stuff].”“I was told that ‘Brain Stew’ was a sudden popular thing on TikTok with a lot of hip-hop kids dancing to it.

Fans think Green Day’s ‘One-Eyed Bastard’ sounds like Pink’s ‘So What’

Green Day‘s new single ‘One-Eyed Bastard’ and Pink‘s 2008 hit ‘So What’.The opening riff of the Oakland rockers’ new song, which is taken from their forthcoming album ‘Saviors’, has been perceived to use a similar sequence of notes to the intro of ‘So What’.‘So What’ in itself attracted comparisons to Deep Purple’s 1970 song ‘Black Night’ when it was first released. However, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has revealed that his idea from the riff actually came from a totally different place.“’One Eyed Bastard’ started off as just a riff that I had – a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff. Lyrically, I was just reflecting on bad times in life,” Armstrong explained in a press release.“That’s the thing about nostalgia, sometimes you think, ‘That was an awful time’,” he added.

It also comes alongside a cartoon-style visual accompaniment, which you can check out below.“’One Eyed Bastard’ started off as just a riff that I had – a shuffle, almost like a Black Sabbath kind of riff.

Green Day reworks ‘American Idiot’ lyrics to trash ‘MAGA agenda’ during ‘Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve’

Green Day changed its lyrics to take a shot at former President Trump and his followers.Playing the 2004 hit for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” on ABC Sunday night, the band changed the lyrics of the second verse for the MAGA take down.Though lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong appeared to garble the lyrics, multiple outlets reported that he sang, “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda,” instead of the original, “I’m not a part of the redneck agenda.”Either way, the words “MAGA agenda” could be clearly made out during the performance, which appeared to elicit cheers from the audience. The song was written as a protest of American culture in the post-9/11 era, with verses summing up the band’s discontent with the country. The original lyrics of the second verse state, “Well, maybe I’m the f——, America.

‘Like a Virgin,’ ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You,’ ‘Imagine,’ ‘Super Mario Bros.’ Theme Among 25 Additions to National Recording Registry

Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic The National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress has issued its annual list of 25 recordings that will be added to the esteemed list, covering a range that runs a gamut from the very first time mariachi music was captured for posterity in the early 1900s to Daddy Yankee’s “Carolina” about a hundred years later. In-between are some curiosities and monster hits that the Library deems worthy of preservation for all time — although, in the case of Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” the prospect of it the recording falling into disrepair due to neglect will probably not be an issue any century soon. Among the enduring smashes from the second half of the 20th century that made the list: Madonna’s “Like a Virgin,” Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven,” John Lennon’s “Imagine,” Queen Latifah’s “All Hail the Queen,” Crosby Stills Nash & Young’s “Déjà Vu,” Jimmy Buffett’s “Margaritaville,” John Denver’s “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” Bobbie Gentry’s “Ode to Billie Joe,” Irene Cara’s “Flashdance… What a Feeling,” Eurythmics’ “Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)” and the Police’s “Synchronicity.”
