Caroline Brew editor The Overlook Film Festival, which takes place from April 4 to April 7 in New Orleans, La. at the Prytania Theatres, has announced its initial 2024 lineup. The horror festival will open with Neon’s “Cuckoo” and close with the world premiere of Universal Pictures’ “Abigail.” The lineup includes 43 films — 20 features and 23 shorts — in addition to four live presentations and five immersive experiences.

Katcy Stephan Gravitas Ventures has acquired worldwide rights to Uinta Productions and Paper Street Pictures’ “Snow Valley,” the directorial debut from the late Brandon Murphy. Murphy, who died in January 2022, was the screenwriter for “Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard.” He also wrote the script for “Snow Valley,” which was in post production at the time of his death.

Dennis Harvey Film Critic “Suitable Flesh” bears a parting dedication to Stuart Gordon, who passed away in 2020 and is certainly missed, especially after watching this campy concoction, which revisits his beloved H.P. Lovecraft territory minus the late screen genre specialist’s knack for welding grotesque horror content to a black comedy tone. There are some yuks (and yucks) to be had in his frequent writing collaborator Dennis Paoli’s very loose, gender-reversed riff on the cult fantasist’s lesser-regarded 1933 short story “The Thing on the Doorstep.” But director Joe Lynch haplessly plays much of this supernatural tale as an erotic thriller, the uncertainty of satirical intent leaving his actors looking silly.

Naman Ramachandran Crime thriller “The Last Stop in Yuma County” has unveiled its first clip. The debut feature from writer-director Francis Galluppi will bow at Austin’s Fantastic Fest before heading to Sitges. XYZ Films and UTA are co-representing North American sales.

McKinley Franklin editor Cinedigm has acquired the North American rights to horror-comedy film “Onyx the Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls,” which will be released in theaters this fall, Variety has learned exclusively. The film is based on writer, director and star Andrew Bowser’s viral character, Onyx, which has accumulated over 300 million views online with over 1 million followers on TikTok. According to the film’s official plot description, as an “amateur occultist, [Onyx] learns that sometimes when you raise HELL…you get a little burned.” Just when Onyx is about to give up his paranormal pursuits, he receives an invitation to meet with his idol, Bartok the Great, to take part in a ritual to revive an ancient demon. Onyx makes friends with fellow disciples as things take a turn for the worst and they battle to keep their souls. 

Boulet Brothers will host and produce the upcoming scripted variety show, which is set to air on AMC+, and the AMC horror streaming platform, Shudder, on April 25. “Halfway to Halloween” will pay homage to the classic holiday variety shows, featuring scripted skits, musical performances, and guest appearances — including David Dastmalchian (“Suicide Squad”), Kevin Smith (“Clerks”), Taran Killam (“Saturday Night Live”), Matthew Lillard (“Scream”), Jorge Garcia (“Lost”), Steve Agee (“Peacemaker”), Barbara Crampton (“Chopping Mall”), Felissa Rose (“Sleepaway Camp”), Katya (“RuPaul’s Drag Race”), Derek Mears (“Friday the 13th”), Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek”), Kendra Onixx, Koco Caine & Melissa Befierce (“The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula”) and the Twin Temple band.

Cooper van Grootel, Tom Williamson, David Lambert and Barbara Crampton will star in the film, which centers around a newly engaged couple on a ski weekend that goes horribly wrong when an unexpected guest arrives and the house’s supernatural forces begin to rise.

Here’s a brand new poster for an upcoming film titled Reborn, a movie coming to the home formats in May. The distributor, Jinga Films and Lightbulb Film Distribution, has had to cancel its UK theatrical release due to the COVID-19 lockdown, but Julian Richards’ multi-award-winning paranormal horror will receive a digital release in the on May 4th, 2020 and a DVD release on May 11th.

2015 saw Abner Pastoll’s Road Games arrive on the genre circuit. The film was a bi-lingual story of a young couple whom find themselves in trouble when they happen upon a peculiar married couple.
