Kicking off on Tuesday, industry players and Hollywood stars began pouring into the coastal city on Monday feeling twinges of excitement at the most robust Cannes lineup since the pandemic first struck – though many fear the event itself will be a super-spreader.

If you were looking for the BAFTA Awards to provide some surprises this Oscar season, you will be sorely disappointed. As expected, “Oppenheimer” dominated the night taking Best Film, Director (Christopher Nolan), Lead Actor (Cillian Murphy), Supporting Actor (Robert Downey, Jr.), Original Score (Ludwig Göransson), Cinematography (Hoyte van Hoytema), and Editing (Jennifer Lame).

Awards Season finally has some twists and turns to contend with before the Oscar nominations are revealed on Tuesday. Today, the 2024 BATA Awards nominations were revealed and snubs and surprises were almost everywhere.

In that respect, the 2024 BAFTA Awards longlists are a very good sign for Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie,” Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer.” Each of those films had 15 mentions, followed by Yorgos Lanthimos’ “Poor Things” with 14.
