Florence + The Machine have shared the moody new track ‘Mermaids’, which explores the grey English weather and society’s darker side.The new single arrived today (April 21), and sees the band pair dark and dance-inspired instrumentals with the ethereal vocals of frontwoman, Florence Welch. It also captures the same essence as seen with their latest full-length effort, 2022’s Dance Fever.Produced by Dave Bayley, the densely layered song references mermaids with “sharp teeth” who appear late at night to drink, dance and “sacrifice a human heart”.With lines including: “I remember falling through these streets / Somewhat out of place, if not for the drunkenness /It makes my chest hurt to think of it,” and “shining under lights from shitty clubs and doing shitty drugs / And hugging girls that smelt like Britney Spears and coconuts,” it’s possible that the track hints at Welch’s nine years of sobriety, and explores a darker side of society.The single comes after several weeks of the band teasing new music on social media.

There’s a twist here: Deadline reported that Anonymous was in talks for Grandview/Automatik. But The Dish hears that Grandview won’t be part of the transaction and will remain a freestanding rep company.

Marking another major merger in the representation world, sources tell Deadline that Anonymous Content is in exclusive negotiations to acquire management And production firm Grandview/Automatik. The two companies have had discussions about a potential merger going all the way back to the spring with nothing serious ever coming of it but over the past couple weeks talks have ramped up and sources close to the situation say they are now exclusive.

Should the deal go forward, it would merge the two management and production companies into a single entity. Sources say that the two companies had previously had limited discussions about a potential merger, but nothing was serious until recently. Reps for both Anonymous and Grandview/Automatik declined to comment. Grandview/Automatik was originally founded in 2014 by former CAA agent Matt Rosen, manager Jeff Silver, and producer Brian Kavanaugh-Jones. On the management side, Grandview currently has 20 managers handling over 500 clients. Among their top clients are “Top Gun: Maverick” director Joseph Kosinski, “House of the Dragon” co-creator Ryan Condal as well as series star Olivia Cooke, “Atlanta” executive producer and director Hiro Murai, “Prey” director Dan Trachtenberg, and “Maid” creator Molly Smith Metzler.

The May 2 evening is actually the second star-studded gala after the annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute was split during the pandemic.  It celebrates "In America: An Anthology of Fashion," the second part of a major two-part exhibition at the museum exploring the roots of American fashion.

The 2022 Met Gala returns to its traditional spot on the first Monday of May, and this year the hosts and co-chairs will reflect the strong Hollywood theme: Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Regina King and Lin-Manuel Miranda have been named to the posts.

Florence + The Machine have announced details of their new album and revealed the record’s artwork in an Instagram post.The forthcoming LP will be the act’s first since ‘High As Hope’, their fourth album which was released in June 2018.Posting on her personal Instagram account, Florence Welch shared the artwork for the new record, which reveals that it will be called ‘Dance Fever’.The sleeve features the musician stood in front of a golden moon and dark branches, with a butterfly above her and two big pink flowers in her hair. The artwork was created by acclaimed photographer and filmmaker Autumn de Wilde.“A fairytale in 14 songs,” Welch captioned the post, adding that the record would be available to pre-order from 8am GMT, although she did not specify from which date.

Angelique Jackson As the Met Gala sets its return to the first Monday in May, the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced plans for the 2022 spring exhibition themed “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.”The Met curators, led by Andrew Bolton, the Wendy Yu curator in charge of the Costume Institute, have enlisted eight film directors —- Janicza Bravo, Sofia Coppola, Julie Dash, Tom Ford, Regina King, Martin Scorsese, Autumn de Wilde and Chloé Zhao — to help bring the exhibition to life.“Anthology” is the second of a two-part presentation saluting designers and dressmakers who worked in the United States from the 19th to the mid-late 20th century. It follows Part One, titled “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” which opened in September 2021.

A group of top film directors including Sofia Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Regina King and last year’s Oscar winner Chloé Zhao will be a key part of the Costume Institute exhibit launching the gala in May.Star curator Andrew Bolton on Tuesday announced the list of eight directors who will create what he called “cinematic vignettes” in the period rooms of the American Wing of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In preparation for Autumn de Wilde’s Emma, costume designer Alexandra Byrne spent her time researching her favorite time period for clothing. “The reason I like this period is that it’s the beginning of fashion plates being published for women,” Byrne says.

Autumn de Wilde, the director of Focus Featres’ “Emma,” flew home to Los Angeles on Thursday night after a London work trip and began a 15-day self-quarantine at a friend’s bungalow. Though not usually a nervous flier nor a germaphobe, de Wilde said she’d had a “stressful” flight because of her anxiety about coronavirus. “I was definitely feeling like the invisible enemy was getting to me,” she told Variety on Friday.

Jane Austen’s “Emma.” is a world of elegance and refinement; its story centers on class distinction and the power of vanity, and how those cause tension between friends and lovers. The challenge for costumer Alexandra Byrne and production designer Kave Quinn to help director Autumn de Wilde deliver her vision of the classic, which hits theaters Feb. 21, was to create a landscape that was simultaneously sumptuous and defined by specific rules.
