Blair Witch horror franchise is reportedly in the works.It has been announced by Lionsgate film chair Adam Fogelson and Jason Blum of horror production studio Blumhouse that another instalment of the cult classic horror movie series is underway.Beginning with the hugely successful 1999 film The Blair Witch Project, the franchise has already seen two sequels – one in 2000 and a second in 2016. Now, a fourth film is in the works, with 2016’s Blair Witch director Roy Lee to return.The revival is part of a multi film deal between Lionsgate and Blumhouse, which is set to reimagine some of the former’s horror classics.Fogelson and Blum announced the news (via The Hollywood Reporter) at Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation in Las Vegas on Wednesday (April 10), with Fogelson saying: “I have been incredibly fortunate to work with Jason many times over the years.

Margot Robbie will produce a “blockbuster” live-action feature film based on the board game Monopoly, it was announced today (April 10).The project was announced today’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where the actor’s production company, LuckyChap, was confirmed to be working with toy company Hasbro on the film. Lionsgate will develop the film.Monopoly is one of the most popular board games in the world and has sold over half a billion copies since its creation in the early 1900s.While details of the plot have not yet been shared, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chairman Adam Fogelson said LuckyChap have a “clear point of view” with the direction they want to take the film.“I could not imagine a better production team for this beloved and iconic brand than LuckyChap,” Fogelsen said.

There’s a revival of The Blair Witch Project in the works!

Following their collaboration on horror pic Imaginary, Lionsgate and Blumhouse are partnering again, this time to develop and produce a brand new take on The Blair Witch Project. This will be the first film in a multi-picture pact with Blumhouse reimagining horror classics from the Lionsgate library. The announcement was made by Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, and Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse during Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation this morning.

Lionsgate and Hasbro have entered into a deal with Barbie producer LuckyChap to shepherd development and produce Monopoly, a feature based on the classic board game. The project is currently in development and Hasbro Entertainment will also produce. The news landed during Lionsgate’s presentation at CinemaCon this morning in Las Vegas.

Expanding their canvas with their John Wick filmmaker even further, Lionsgate has signed a second production deal with Chad Stahelski that will see the filmmaker and his 87Eleven Entertainment label producing original action fare for the studio. It’s a multi-year first look.

The thawing of the winter box office continues this weekend with Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 4 which is bound to see the franchise’s second highest domestic opening at $50M+ at 3,900 theaters after the original 2008 movie ($60.2M). But that’s not all, it’s also the second biggest start for a DWA title after Universal acquired the label from its 20th Century Fox distribution deal; the biggest during Universal’s 2.0 with DWA being How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World which debuted to $55M in March 2019. Katcy Stephan Lionsgate has closed a deal with “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” director Destin Daniel Cretton to write and direct a live-action film adaptation of the manga classic “Naruto.” The announcement was made today by Adam Fogelson, chair, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group. The movie will be based on the manga created by Masashi Kishimoto.

Chad Stahelski, who Deadline already told you was set to direct the reboot of starring Henry Cavill, has inked a deal with Lionsgate to oversee the creative on both that franchise and John Wick. Remember, John Wick is beginning to spinoff with the Ballerina this summer; Stahelski already an EP on that film.

EXCLUSIVE: Longtime Lionsgate Film Distribution Head David Spitz is exiting, Deadline has learned, with former STX distribution vet Kevin Grayson getting named President of Domestic Distribution of the studio’s motion picture group.

Veteran Lionsgate film distribution chief David Spitz is exiting the company and will be replaced by former STX Distribution veteran Kevin Grayson, Adam Fogelson, Vice Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group announced on Friday.  Grayson was previously the President of Distribution at STX Entertainment.

“Nothing in any future I see can replace the communal theatrical experience,” emphasized Lionsgate Motion Picture Chair Adam Fogelson at the top of Lionsgate CinemaCon presentation, which closed out the 2023 Las Vegas confab this afternoon.

Lionsgate, which continues preparations to separate its studio business from Starz, laid off staffers in its Motion Picture Group today, sources tell Deadline. I hear the number is about a dozen.

The demise of STX as a distributor continues to pose questions for the future of high-profile movies on their slate, including Guy Ritchie’s action film Operation Fortune, Michael Mann’s big-budget biopic Ferrari, and Daisy Ridley thriller The Marsh King’s Daughter. 

Lionsgate announced on Thursday that veteran executives JP Richards and Keri Moore will be joining the studio’s motion picture group as marketing heads. Richards, who will be the president of global marketing, joins the studio from Apple TV+ where he oversaw the marketing campaign for Best Picture Oscar winner “CODA.” Prior to Apple, Richards worked as SVP of Digital Marketing at Universal and Co-President of Global Marketing at Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. and AppleTV+ marketing vet JP Richards and STX marketing exec Keri Moore are joining Lionsgate’s motion picture group respectively as President and Co-President of Worldwide Theatrical Marketing. They start Nov. 1.

Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group has named Horizon Media its media agency of record for its theatrical and home entertainment business.

STX had previously tried and abandoned an effort to go public on the Hong Kong stock exchange in 2018, citing unfavorable market conditions.
