Palm Royale‘s Kristen Wiig, Josh Lucas, director Tate Taylor and writer and showrunner Abe Sylvia joined Deadline’s Contenders TV event Sunday to talk about the likability of the characters, some of the tough topics they’ve tackled and how the Palm Beach setting helped amplify the comedy of the show.

George & Tammy, starring Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon, premiered Sunday with 3.3 million Live+Same Day linear viewers across Showtime, Paramount Network and CMT. Originally produced for Spectrum Originals with a second window on Paramount Network and Paramount+, the music drama was recently picked up by Showtime after Spectrum pulled away from original series.

Jessica Chastain and Michael Shannon first costarred together in 2011’s “Take Shelter.” Now, they’ll costar again in a very different project: “George & Tammy,” a miniseries about country music legends Tammy Wynette and George Jones for Paramount Network. The series is a long-time passion project for Chastain, who first signed onto the project in 2011 when creator Abe Sylvia wanted to make it a film.
