However, none seem quite as significant as the journey Guardiola has taken over the last nine months to plug himself firmly into the City mainframe. For all the success and joy the manager has brought to the club since 2016, he has never quite seemed in sync with the fanbase - most notably when discussing the sore point of attendances.
From suggesting supporters shouldn't boo the Champions League anthem when he arrived to the regular calls for fuller turnouts at home to a string of weakened selections for derby games, Guardiola has plenty of priors to support the idea he wasn't fully entrenched at the club. The alignment was almost there, but naggingly imperfect.
