Patton Oswalt, Brandon Flynn, Hamish Linklater Among Seven Cast in Apple Series ‘Manhunt’

Joe Otterson TV ReporterEdie Falco has been cast opposite Pete Davidson in the upcoming Peacock comedy series “Bupkis,” Variety has learned.The announcement was made during NBCUniversal’s upfront presentation on Monday. “Bupkis” was picked up straight-to-series at Peacock back in April. The show is described as a heightened, fictionalized version of Davidson’s real life.

Hulu is bidding farewell to another one of its Marvel properties. M.O.D.O.K., the streamer’s adult animated show from Jordan Blum and Patton Oswalt, has been canceled after one season.

Amazon’s Freevee has assembled the cast for its upcoming Shea Serrano Project, formerly titled Primo. Joining the comedy as series regulars will be Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Martin Martinez, Carlos Santos, Johny Rey Diaz, Henri Esteve, Jonathan Medina, Nigel Siwabessy, Christina Vidal, Efrain Villa and Stakiah Washington. The project hails from Serrano and The Good Place creator Mike Schur.

Hamish Linklater (“Midnight Mass”) and Lili Taylor (“Outer Range”) have been cast as Abraham Lincoln and Mary Todd Lincoln in “Manhunt,” Apple’s limited series about the hunt for assassin John Wilkes Booth, the streamer announced on Tuesday. The other new cast members are Patton Oswalt as war department detective Lafayette Baker; Brandon Flynn as Eddie Stanton Jr., a war department clerk and son of Edwin Stanton; Betty Gabriel as fashion designer and friend of Mary Lincoln, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Keckley; Will Harrison as David Herold, Booth’s accomplice; and Damian O’Hare as Thomas Eckert, Stanton’s right-hand man and a telegraph expert.They join previously announced stars Tobias Menzies as Lincoln’s War Secretary Edwin Stanton, who leads the hunt; Anthony Boyle as John Wilkes Booth; Matt Walsh as Dr.

Apple is rounding out its ensemble cast for its upcoming true-crime limited series Manhunt, about the Lincoln assassination. Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Betty Gabriel (Get Out), Will Harrison (Daisy Jones & The Six), Hamish Linklater (Midnight Mass), Damian O’Hare (Perry Mason), Patton Oswalt (Gaslit) and Lili Taylor (Outer Range) join previously announced leads Tobias Menzies, Lovie Simone and Matt Walsh in the series from Friday Night Lights and Fargo writer-producer Monica Beletsky, Lionsgate and 3 Arts.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterMaisie Williams has joined the upcoming Apple drama series “The New Look.”Williams joins previously announced series leads Ben Mendelsohn and Juliette Binoche in the series. “The New Look” is set against the World War II Nazi Occupation of Paris when Coco Chanel’s (Binoche) reign as the world’s most famous fashion designer ends and Christian Dior (Mendelsohn) rises helping return spirit and life to the world with his ground-breaking, iconic brand.Williams will play the role of Catherine Dior, Christian’s younger sister and Medal of Honor winner for Courage in the cause of Freedom.Williams is best known for playing Arya Stark in the megahit HBO series “Game of Thrones.” She starred in all eight seasons of the series, earning two Emmy nominations for best supporting actress in a drama in the process.

Jennifer Garner will star along with previously announced cast members including Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Angourie Rice, and Aisha Tyler.The series is based on the Laura Dave novel of the same name. The show follows Hannah (Garner), a woman who forms an unexpected relationship with her sixteen-year-old stepdaughter Bailey (Rice) while searching for the truth about why her husband Owen (Coster-Waldau) has mysteriously disappeared.

Aunjanue Ellis (King Richard), Boyd Holbrook (The Premise), Adelaide Clemens (The Great Gatsby), Vondie Curtis Hall (Harriet), Marin Ireland (Y: The Last Man), Norbert Leo Butz (Bloodline), Victor Williams (The Good Lord Bird) and Vivian Olyphant are set as leads opposite Timothy Olyphant in FX’s Justified: City Primeval, the limited series inspired by Elmore Leonard’s City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit. Production begins this week in Chicago.

Like the film, the series would follow Tom Wingo, who travels to New York after his sister attempts suicide. While there, he develops a relationship with his sister’s therapist, Susan Lowenstein, while also delving into painful memories from his childhood.Tate Taylor will write and executive produce the adaptation, with John Norris executive producing with Taylor under their Wyolah Entertainment banner.

Joe Otterson TV ReporterJeff Daniels is set to play the lead role in the upcoming Netflix drama series “A Man in Full,” Variety has learned.The series is based on the Tom Wolfe novel of the same name. Variety exclusively reported the show had received a straight-to-series order at the streamer in November 2021. The show hails from David E. Kelley with Regina King onboard to direct and executive produce.In the series, Atlanta real estate mogul Charlie Croker (Daniels) faces sudden bankruptcy.

Tubi has handed a season 2 renewal to The Freak Brothers, its first animated original series, for premiere in December. The streaming service has ordered eight episodes of the adult animated comedy, based on Gilbert Shelton’s cult classic underground comic. Its all-star voice cast, which includes Woody Harrelson, John Goodman, Pete Davidson, Tiffany Haddish, Adam Devine, Blake Anderson, Andrea Savage, La La Anthony and Rapper ScHoolboy Q, are all returning for the second season.

HBO’s Original two-part documentary “George Carlin’s American Dream” will debut later this month.Directed by Judd Apatow (“The Zen Diaries of Garry Shandling”) and Michael Bonfiglio (“May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers”), the doc will air on HBO on back-to-back nights, with Part 1 premiering on Friday, May 20 at 8:00-9:55 p.m. ET/PT, followed by on Saturday, May 21, at the same time.Both episodes will be available to stream on HBO Max beginning Friday, May 20.
