Patrice Evra has told former Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku he made a mistake by returning to Chelsea.
Lukaku made the move back to Stamford Bridge last summer as he left Inter Milan for a fee close to £100million. The Belgium international had been a huge success at the San Siro, helping Inter to the Serie A title after leaving United in 2019.
Since returning to Chelsea though, the 28-year-old has struggled to make an impression. Having scored four goals in his first four games back with the Blues, Lukaku has gone on to find the net just eight more times in all competitions for his club.

His form has seen him drop down the pecking order under Thomas Tuchel, with Kai Havertz favoured in the advanced role. Lukaku’s cause has not been helped either by comments he made earlier in the season, either.
The striker caused uproar among Chelsea fans when he revealed he never wanted to leave Inter during an interview with Sky Italy. Lukaku claimed he would have stayed in Serie A had he been offered a new contract.
Having initially impressed upon his return, Lukaku now regularly finds himself coming in for criticism for his performances, with United fans seeing some parallels with his displays at Old Trafford between 2017 and 2019. And, while defending him, Evra feels the striker made the wrong choice in leaving Inter last summer.
Speaking to Prime Video, Evra said: “People who criticise him have a short memory. Because when he arrived in London he scored and did well; then he got injured and said he missed Inter.
