‘Ozark’ series finale: Explaining Jonah’s actions in last scene

Note: Spoilers ahead.“Ozark” ended its four-season run with Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner) dead and the Byrde family intact — just barely — as 14-year-old son Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) joined the show’s long list of cold-blooded killers.Or did he?In the show’s final scene, reminiscent of that WTF? “Sopranos” series ender, Jonah aimed a shotgun at pesky private investigator Mel Sattam (Adam Rothenberg), who broke into the Byrdes’ lakefront house to steal the ceramic-goat cookie jar containing the ashes of Wendy’s (Laura Linney) unstable brother, Ben Davis (Tom Pelphrey), contract-killed by his sister in Season 3.Sattam told Marty (Jason Bateman) that his crematorium did a subpar job burning Ben’s body and that he had enough DNA evidence (bits of teeth and bone) to prove that Ben was murdered. Jonah emerged from the shadows, pointed the shotgun at Sattam and the screen suddenly cut-to-black — the silence shattered by a shotgun blast that left Mel’s fate and Jonah’s intentions open to interpretation.Gaertner, 18, answered a few questions from The Post about the shocking finale and how Jonah evolved over the four seasons since “Ozark” premiered in 2017.Did you know how it would play out for Jonah going into Season 4?Well … not entirely.

How ‘Ozark’ Cinematography Put a ‘Sense of Danger in the Shadows’ for Season 4

Catherine Springer “Ozark” cinematographer Shawn Kim came aboard the show at the start of Season 4 with a good idea of what creators Bill Dubuque and Mark Williams wanted for the look of the dark thriller about a mob accountant and his family who relocate from Chicago to the Missouri Ozarks: A “sense of danger in the shadows,” Kim says.“Ozark” fans have been waiting three months for the second half of the season to find out what happens to the Byrdes — Jason Bateman’s Marty, wife Wendy (Laura Linney) and their two children — as they try to wriggle free from the clutches of the drug cartel that employs him and the FBI that wants to imprison him. But Kim says the final seven installments, which drops April 29 and close out the Netflix series, are built around the ambitious Ruth (Julia Garner), who had worked for Marty and saw her world collapse around her at the end of the first half of the season.

‘Ozark’ season four part two reviews: “Some of the best event TV”

Ozark have just come in.Part II of season four, which is the show’s last, will be released on Netflix on April 29, with critics having already watched previews.“The result is an ending that’s unbearably tense, obliquely poignant, and some of the best event TV we’ve seen on any streaming service,” The Independent said of the finale, comparing it to Breaking Bad.IndieWire also praised the new episodes, saying: “Even if you see the Byrdes’ felonious odyssey as a metaphor for the perils and pitfalls of a long-term marriage, raising children, and/or preserving the American ideal of family, the conclusion should click cleanly into place.”However, some critics weren’t impressed with the finale, with GamesRadar calling the new episodes “anticlimactic”, writing: “There’s the familiar measured pacing, weighty themes, complicated storylines concerned with deals, betrayals, and murders that eventually come together.“It’s a season that takes us slowly to the end, and doesn’t go out with a bang so much as a controlled burn. ”Collider also struggled with the finale, praising the performances but criticising the pacing.“When Ozark is focused on its strengths, it is as good as it has ever been,” they wrote.
