The movie awards season reaches its apex Tuesday when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences reveals nominations for the 95th Oscars. The unveiling is set to get underway beginning at 8:30 a.m. ET/5:30 a.m. PT in a live presentation at Oscars HQ in Hollywood hosted by Riz Ahmed and Allison Williams.

Pundits expect films like A24’s Everything Everywhere All at Once, Universal’s The Fabelmans and Searchlight’s The Banshees of Inisherin to be big parts of this morning’s announcement of nominees in Oscar’s 23 categories. They have been consistently in the mix as the precursor awards have rolled out from the Gothams to the guilds to the Globes.
Among the questions to be answered today: Will this year’s biggest films — Avatar: The Way of Water, Top Gun: Maverick and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever — turn ticket sales into nominations? The past few Best Picture winners (CODA most recently, Nomadland the year before and Parasite the year before that, for example) suggest big box office hasn’t been a prerequisite.

With this morning’s noms out, the Academy’s final voting runs March 2-7, with the Oscars set for Sunday, March 12 at the Dolby Theater in a ceremony airing live on ABC and hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.
