Oprah insists she 'had no idea' Harry and Meghan interview was a bombshell

Former US chat show host Oprah Winfrey claims she had no idea that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were going to drop "bombshells" about the royal family during their now-infamous sit-down interview with her, which aired in March 2021. Speaking to Gayle King on CBS following the Queen's death, Oprah, 68, insisted she had no idea what Meghan and Harry were going to reveal.
"I was as surprised by the bombshells as everybody else," she admitted to Gayle. "I was doing an interview to offer them a platform to tell their story about why they left, and that was my number one intention was just clarity on 'why did you leave?'" Oprah continued: "And so some of the things that were revealed in that interview came as a surprise to me and those surprises are now referred to as 'bombshells'.
"But I didn't set out to do a 'bombshell' interview. I set out to do an interview, have a conversation that would allow them to tell their story." Gayle then asked Oprah what she thought about a reconciliation between Prince Harry, Meghan, Prince William and Kate Middleton, after the former 'Fab Four' put their differences aside to present a united front to greet grieving crowds in Windsor on Sunday, following the death of the Queen last Thursday.
Gayle said: "And now people say, 'reconciliation, reconciliation, we hope the brothers reconcile', what do you say?" Oprah quickly replied: "I do not get into people's family matters. Everybody who has experienced some challenges in their families with in-laws or brothers or sisters knows how difficult some of those situations can be and I'm sure that you know for the royal family, it's no different."
