Dane Partridge, an Idaho father and U.S. Army veteran, died this week while "fighting for freedom in Ukraine," his family announced.  His father, Dennis Partridge, wrote on Facebook on Saturday that his son was in a coma after being critically injured by a Russian tank blast.  Dane Partridge died while fighting in Ukraine when he was struck by a Russian tank round, his family said.  (Facebook/Honoring Dane Partridge) Partridge was being treated at Kyiv military hospital and was taken off life support on Tuesday, his family announced.  "He was a fine soldier who fought with valor and bravery on the battlefield," his family wrote on Facebook.

Moderate Democrat Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, recently revealed that his first order of business at the start of Congress' new session would be voting for speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to remain in her leadership position, and then he would focus on his district. At the opening of his new campaign office in Texas, Cuellar told reporters that he could be counted on to vote for Pelosi to remain as House speaker.

Critics slammed Vice President Kamala Harris on Tuesday for referring to America's youth as "our children" during her interview with late night talk show host Seth Meyers.  "When you see our kids, and I truly believe that they are our children, they are the children of our country, of our communities, I mean, our future is really bright if we, if we prioritize them, and therefore prioritize the climate crisis and the need to address it. If we think about our children, prioritizing the need to bring our country together," Harris said.  Harris and Meyers were discussing a photo of the vice president surrounded by children in a classroom in Connecticut.

A Texas border mayor called out both parties Monday on "America's Newsroom," arguing Republicans and Democrats are the "root cause" of the border crisis.  "It is a crisis relative to immigration and border security. And unfortunately, we have a tendency to look beyond our borders for the elusive root causes when in reality and unfortunately, the fact remains that politicians on both sides of the aisle are the root cause," said Rio Grande City, Texas Mayor Joel Villarreal.  Villarreal said no mayor or governor should "bear the burden" for what he described as a "broken immigration system."  Villarreal said he is not confident the influx of illegal immigration will end because "neither party has delivered immigration reform in several decades." Vice President Kamala Harris visited Austin this weekend, but declined to make a stop at the southern border.

North Korea has fired two short range missiles toward its eastern coast hours after the U.S. military concluded military training exercises with South Korea. South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a statement they detected the two missiles launched between 1:48 a.m.

BTS from compulsory military service.On October 4 at the National Defence Committee’s interpellation session, Lee was asked for his opinion on a bill proposed by Kim Young-bae of the Democratic Party of Korea last month, which aims to allow pop celebrities like BTS, who have received merits from the government, to serve an alternative form of military service.According to KoreaJoongAngDaily, the defence minister stated that it is “desirable that members of BTS carry out their mandatory military service”. However, Lee also added that he would “respect the revised law if it does pass in Congress”.This follows the statement he made shortly after Kim’s bill was proposed, in which Lee said it would be “difficult” to extend this alternative [military service] programme to BTS due to “aspects of fairness on fulfilling mandatory military service”.In his original proposal, Kim suggested for existing provisions for athletes, actors, directors and classical musicians who have made a significant international impact be made available to decorated pop musicians such as BTS.

Actress Priyanka Chopra is fighting back against "men patronizing women." Chopra, 40, moderated a panel at the Democratic National Committee’s Women’s Leadership Forum in Washington on Friday, and talked with Vice President Kamala Harris about the importance of women’s rights.  "Do you hear that sound? That is the sound of no mansplaining, ladies," Chopra joked in the beginning of the session, according to Reuters.  "The Matrix Resurrections" star discussed how men patronize women and "mansplains" them.  Vice President Harris suggested female Democrats need to fight for reproductive rights and noted how voting for Democratic senators in November’s midterm elections is important.
