The support is intended to stabilise staffing pressures and help in preparing sites for ‘full restoration of our elective activity’.
Forces personnel will carry out general ward duties, cleaning to support maintenance of Infection Prevention Control measures, portering and help with mealtimes and drinks.
They will also be asked to help with administration, answering ward telephones and dealing with queries, maintaining stocks of supplies and acting as runners - collecting or taking samples to laboratories or drugs from the pharmacy.
Hospital teams are now working to reschedule patients based on clinical need.
Patients are asked to wait to hear from the hospital as staff work through the waiting lists.
