‘No Sudden Move’ Review: Don Cheadle and Benicio Del Toro in Steven Soderbergh’s Playfully Dark ’50s Noir

Alexander Rodnyansky has spent his career being prolific on the international scene and Cannes 2021 is no different, with the producer in town touting three buzzy upcoming projects, alongside attending the premieres of two of his latest pictures: Ari Folman’s Where is Anne Frank and Kira Kovalenko’s Unclenching the Fists.

When we talk about fast, prolific filmmakers that are able to get a film made in a short amount of time and never sit around and let years go by without a new feature, we often talk about Steven Soderbergh, for example. However, you could argue that no one is as prolific or as fast as filmmaker Hong Sang-soo.

For the first time in quite a while, the upcoming release schedule for films has veered back into some semblance of normal. There will still be several films that receive the treatment of being released in theaters simultaneously with a run on streaming services – either through a subscription such as HBO Max or paying for a movie while also having the streaming service, it will be available on such as “Black Widow” on Disney+.

When Steven Soderbergh first announced his next film, “Kimi,” with Zoe Kravitz for HBO Max — the one that’ll arrive after “No Sudden Move,” which is being released today, not much about it was known. It was dubbed a mystery thriller, written by veteran screenwriter David Koepp, and about an “agoraphobic tech worker that stumbles on some evidence of a violent crime over the course of a routine work project.” Intriguing but still slightly vague.
