Newsom Offers Help As Hurricane Ian Hits, Says CA “Will Always Be There For Floridians And For Gov. DeSantis”

California Governor Gavin Newsom announced this afternoon that the state’s long-running, Covid-related State of Emergency will end on February 28, 2023. That’s basically three years after it began on March 4, 2020.

After former Hawaii Rep.Tulsi Gabbard announced her departure from the Democratic Party, actor and comedian Rob Schneider explained on "Fox & Friends" Wednesday what led him to the same decision.  "It shouldn't be such a shock," Schneider said about Gabbard's announcement. "We don't get ten parties. You get two right now." The "Grown-Ups" actor and SNL alum told "Fox & Friends" hosts he left the Democratic Party in 2013 for similar reasons.

California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom's reelection campaign put up a billboard in Austin, Texas, promoting his state's abortion access for women. The billboard, placed just south of Stassney Lane in South Austin, features a woman sitting with her arms crossed over her knees looking toward a pro-abortion message that reads, "Need an abortion? California is ready to help."  The advertisement also includes California's abortion resources website and a Bible verse.  "Love your neighbor as yourself.There is no greater commitment than these," the billboard reads, quoting Mark 12:31.

While members of the media have taken to mocking Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ "go-go" boots and the side-eyes he and President Biden supposedly gave each other at a recent press conference on Hurricane Ian, the Republican governor said he’s been mobilizing a historic effort to restore power and stability to the areas most impacted by the Category 4 hurricane that claimed at least 137 lives. Days before Hurricane Ian made landfall, DeSantis declared a state of emergency for the state while bringing in more than 42,000 linemen and over 1.6 million gallons of fuel to prepare for recovery efforts, DeSantis’ office told Fox News Digital.

Florida police arrested six looters in Fort Meyers on Saturday for allegedly stealing high-end sneakers and other items from an outlet mall. According to Lee County's Sheriff's Office, Carlos Reyes Carmenates, 33, Mirna Abstengo Quesada, 33, Roberto Didier Enamorado Reyes, 30, Daymase Varona Reyes, 35, Alain Banzo Dieguez, 19, and a Hispanic teenager who is 14 years old traveled from Broadway Avenue to the outlets.  Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno referenced the incident Saturday during a briefing on Hurricane Ian recovery efforts alongside Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

At least 132 people have died due to Hurricane Ian, according to local officials, as the death toll continues to climb more than a week after the powerful storm tore across Cuba and the eastern United States. Search and rescue operations continue in Florida after Hurricane Ian devastated large portions of the state as a powerful Category 4 hurricane with winds up to 150 mph.  Hurricane Ian is now the second-deadliest storm in the continental United States in the 21st Century since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.The deadliest hurricane ever to hit the U.S.

Several media outlets criticized Melania Trump’s fashion choice in 2017 when she left to go visit victims of a hurricane, however the same media outlets neglected to mention First Lady Jill Biden’s similar fashion choice during her post-Hurricane Ian Florida visit on Wednesday.  Both President Biden and his wife were photographed leaving for Florida to meet with Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., about ongoing recovery efforts following the Category 4 hurricane hitting the state.

President Joe Biden used part of his remarks in Florida on Wednesday to blame Hurricane Ian, a recent Category 4 storm, on human-caused climate change despite recent pushback from experts. "We're in a situation where the Colorado River looks more like a stream," Biden said during a speech in Fort Myers, Florida, on Wednesday afternoon. "There's a lot going on, and I think the one thing this has finally ended is a discussion about whether or not there's climate change, and we should do something about it." Biden visited Fort Myers alongside Gov.

President Biden met with Gov. Ron DeSantis Wednesday in Florida as the political rivals came together to survey the damage caused by Hurricane Ian. Biden, with first lady Jill Biden, is visiting hard-hit Fort Myers to "reaffirm his commitment to supporting the people of Florida as they recover and rebuild from the devastating storm," White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Tuesday.

Friday marked a big win for artists in California.

Among the 400 or so bills that California Governor Gavin Newsom either signed or vetoed this week was AB 2799, which provides that courts “must consider specified factors…in determining whether creative expression evidence is more prejudicial than probative.”

In August, the Calif. Senate and Assembly unanimously approved the bill, AB 2799. Speaking to the importance of the legislation at a virtual bill signing ceremony were rap artists Killer Mike, Meek Mill, Too $hort, Ty Dolla $ign, YG, E-40 and Tyga, as well as CEO of the Recording Academy Harvey Mason Jr. Leaders from the Black Music Action Coalition and Songwriters of North America also joined the signing ceremony. In a press release, the Black Music Action Coalition called the bill a “crucial step in the right direction” of not injecting racial bias into court proceedings, especially given the recent indictment of Young Thug and Gunna, whose lyrics were directly quoted and used against them in an ongoing RICO trial.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a bill that will set workplace safety training and certification standards for companies that produce live events at publicly owned and operated venues. The signing was praised by the California IATSE Council, many of whose members work behind-the-scenes on live events.
