And we're back, back, back for the New Year!
Singles-wise, we're starting this week with the long-hailed return of Miley Cyrus, who has certainly been missed since she dropped the best album of her career, 2020's Plastic Hearts, and then...disappeared? Until now! Miley kickstarts a new era today with Flowers, taken from her new album Endless Summer Vacation, which has been worked on by Mike Will Made It (We Can't Stop), Greg Kurstin (She's All I Wanna Be) and Harry Styles' main producers, Tyler Johnson and Kid Harpoon (As It Was). As always, Miley stays the king of petty we aspire to...Flowers is released in the UK on January 13, the birthday of her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth.
From a pop queen to a pop princess, Mimi Webb has released some great singles over the past year (House on Fire!! Ghost Of You!!!) and as she looks forward to the release of her debut album Amelia, she's issued a fiery new banger, Red Flags. Co-produced by Cirkut, it's all about running towards those boys you just know are trouble for you. Relateable!
Elsewhere, we have other notable new singles from Sam Smith, Jessie Reyez & Koffee (the elastic Gimme), Paramore (the very weird but in a good way C'est Comme Ca) and Freya Ridings (returning triumphantly with the Steve Mac-produced Weekends, with a new album to follow this year).
Albums-wise this week, Scottish alt-pop singer Joesef finally drops his debut LP Permeant Damage, full of the tender, genre-shifting pop songs that have built him a dedicated following, while Circa Waves return with their fourth album, Never Going
