Carly Rae Jepsen is set to release a new collaborative single featuring Rufus Wainwright this week.Wainwright will appear on the title track from Jepsen’s fifth studio album ‘The Loneliest Time’, which is due out on October 21 via 604/Schoolboy/Interscope (pre-order here).On Monday (October 3), the Canadian pop star teased on social media that she’d be sharing “one more song before the album drops”.Today (October 5), she wrote: “I can’t believe I finally get to say this… ‘The Loneliest Time’ (the song) ft @rufuswainwright comes out this Friday [October 7].”Jepsen went on to hint at the sound of the team-up, writing: “If you like 5-part string sections, 4:30+ track lengths, and disco power ballads… you might want to check it out.” Check out the announcement tweet beneath.I can’t believe I finally get to say this… The Loneliest Time (the song) ft @rufuswainwright comes out this Friday

AIM’s Independent Music Awards were presented last night at a ceremony in London, with winners including Stormzy, Lethal Bizzle, Rina Sawayama, Wet Leg, Mitski, Nilüfer Yanya, and record labels Rough Trade and Local Action.Stormzy accepted the Diversity Champion award for his work with his charity The #Merky Foundation and book publishing company #Merky Books.Speaking via video link, he said: “I encourage everyone in the room today to not just use diversity as a buzzword. Mickey Guyton recently joined Metallica at a New York performance for a powerful rendition of ‘Nothing Else Matters’.Guyton joined the band’s headlining set at Global Citizen Festival, which took place at New York City’s Central Park. “Finally a real singer!” James Hetfield remarked on Guyton’s appearance, before the singer belted through the song’s verses and delivered a riveting duet with James Hetfield on the track’s chorus.The country singer previously covered the classic power ballad on the 2021 tribute album ‘The Metallica Blacklist’, which celebrated the 30-year anniversary of Metallica’s classic 1991 self-titled record.

Global Citizen provided, much like the city that hosted it, a melting pot of artists from as far away as Spain (Rosalia) and Italy (Maneskin) and as local as New Jersey natives, Charlie Puth and the Jonas Brothers, and Long Island’s own Mariah Carey. The crowds were out in force in Central Park, staying late to catch headliner Metallica. It helped that the weather cooperated and made for smooth entry and exit for the tens of thousands in attendance. Backstage, a who’s who of the music industry gathered, including Guy Oseary, Universal Music Group’s Michele Anthony, Arista Records chairman David Massey, Brooklyn Bowl owner Peter Shapiro, agent Marsha Vlasic, Warner Records’ Eric Wong and Karen Kwak and L.A. Reid, currently working with Carey as executive producer of her next album.

The 10th edition of the Global Citizen Festival in Central Park — which first served as a fall music celebration on the Great Lawn in 2012 — began with the Jonas Brothers on Saturday night.It was fitting that those Jersey boys would kick off this year’s event — on the most perfect of early fall days, with not a cloud in the sky over Central Park. The Global Citizen Festival has come to signify not only the end of summer and the beginning of fall — but a renewal of all the ways that music can lift up our spirits and souls even in the most trying of times, whether you were chanting “Jonas!” or rocking a Metallica t-shirt.And the Jonas Brothers were the perfect way to start the festivities, which also just so happened to be hosted by Pryianka Chopra Jonas — the wife and baby mama of the youngest JoBro, Nick.Having such a major Indian star as Chopra Jonas host the event reminded all the New Yorkers on the Great Lawn that this was bigger than us — and this year’s festival had more of an international presence than ever before.Spanish sensation Rosalia, Italian glam rockers Maneskin and African queen Angelique Kidjo all took part.

Rina Sawayama has revealed that Elton John has offered her some “great advice” regarding some as-yet-unreleased music.The British-Japanese artist, who released her second album ‘Hold The Girl’ today (September 16), collaborated with the legendary musician on a reworking of her song ‘Chosen Family’ last year.It came after the pair struck up a friendship, with John having praised Sawayama’s debut studio record on his Rocket Hour radio show in 2020. He’s since been avid fan and supporter of her work.Speaking to NME for this week’s Big Read cover feature, Sawayama spoke further about John assisting her with clearing a guitar riff on her single ‘This Hell’, which bears similarities to the ABBA‘s ‘Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight)’.“I was stressed as fuck because I was like: ‘this is our first single, this is our lead single, and I can’t use the guitar riff that I want’,” she recalled, adding that John ended up putting her in contact with the Swedish pop icons.ABBA’s Benny Andersson subsequently gave Sawayama his blessing to keep the original part in the finished track.“Elton is always willing to help.
