Manchester City's summer arrival Julian Alvarez has revealed the Blues' similarity to former club River Plate will aid him in Pep Guardiola's selection plans.
The Argentine was signed on deadline day in January, the same day as his 22nd birthday, but he returned to his former club on loan. Alvarez finished as top scorer during their title-winning season.
He joined up with his City teammates for their tour of America as the Blues faced Club America and Bayern Munich in preparation for their Premier League title defence this season. The 22-year-old featured in both games, replacing Erling Haaland against Julian Nagelsmann's side shortly before half-time during their 1-0 win.

Despite changing climates and continents, Alvarez has credited the similarity between City's style of play and his former club for making the beginning of his career with the champions "easier". After being thrust into the action against the German champions, in a storm-affected game in Green Bay, he almost opened his account but couldn't find the far post of Sven Ulreich's goal.
"It's a team that has been playing in a certain way for a long time. I try what I've been doing, but with some changes. It's a team that presses like we usually did in River," the Argentine told ESPN (via TYC Sports ).
"It's a little easier for me, that's what I was used to doing. I feel comfortable playing this way. I'm going to continue training to the fullest to be available."
