Witherspoon was dining across from Zoe Saldaña, who was accompanied by her Italian husband and exchanging bits of dialogue in his native tongue, when she realized the “Avatar” star would be the perfect actor to play Amy. The show is an epic love story about Amy’s whirlwind romance with a hunky Sicilian chef named Lino (Eugenio Mastrandrea), who she meets while studying abroad in Italy. When Lino is diagnosed with cancer, the couple must reconcile with family and navigate their love in the face of imminent loss.

In its second week on the Netflix Top 10 chart, the series has become Netflix’s ninth most popular English-language TV show of all time. Netflix measures overall popularity by counting hours viewed in a title’s first 28 days on the streamer. After 12 days alone, “Monster” has been viewed for 496 million hours — and it still has 16 more days to climb even higher on the chart. According to Netflix’s figures, at least 56 million households have consumed all 10 episodes (approximately 8.8 hours total) of the limited series thus far. The Evan Peters-led series also leads the English TV chart for the second consecutive week, earning 299.84 million hours viewed. The accomplishment makes it the second most watched English-language series in a week behind “Stranger Things 4.”

During the Sept. 19-Sept. 25 viewing window, the 10-episode limited series knocked “Cobra Kai” Season 5 off of its pedestal and down to the third spot. Season 2 of “Fate: The Winx Saga” stayed at the No. 2 spot for the second week. The second installment of the fantasy series, which premiered on the streamer on Sept. 16, earned nearly 61 million hours viewed in its first full week of availability. The fifth season of “Cobra Kai” dropped in viewership during its second full week on Netflix. The show raked in 38.1 million hours viewed –– a drastic fall from the previous week’s 95.6 million hours viewed. Meanwhile, “The Crown” continues its run on the Top 10 list following Queen Elizabeth II’s passing. BreAnna Bell “Grendel” is no longer happening at Netflix, Variety has confirmed. Based on Matt Wagner’s popular comic books, the series (which had an eight episode order) follows Hunter Rose, a fencer, writer and assassin who fights organized crime in New York to avenge the death of a lost love, until he ends up taking over the crime scene himself. It was originally picked up at Netflix in September 2021. Producers now have the option to auction the project elsewhere. No further information has been released. Abubakr Ali is set to play the show’s titular role. Ali is known for playing Sebastian ‘Bash’ Kamal-Stern in “Power Book II: Ghost.” His other credits include playing Raj Patel in “Katy Keene” and a leading role in “What If?,” the upcoming feature from Orion Pictures and Killer Films directed by Billy Porter.
