During the movie’s iconic makeover montage (because what’s a 00s film without one) Andy is given a complete image overhaul, complete with a glossy new full fringe that was, of course, immaculately styled.

The movie debuted to strong reviews at Sundance, but its high price tag, said by sources to be in the range of $15 million, made it difficult for the film to score a distribution deal. It languished on the market for roughly two months as several studios kicked the tires. This despite the combined star wattage of “Jojo Rabbit’s” Thomasin McKenzie and Oscar-winner Anne Hathaway and a twisty plot. The rest of the ensemble includes Shea Whigham, Marin Ireland, and Owen Teague. William Oldroyd (“Lady Macbeth”) directs from a script by Moshfegh who adapted “Eileen” with Luke Goebel. Neon will release the film theatrically this fall. 

NEON has taken the North American rights to the Anne Hathaway starring Sundance Film Festival premiere, Eileen from director William Oldroyd (Lady Macbeth). The distributor is eyeing a fall theatrical release for the film.

Anne Hathaway is working on a new role! The Hollywood star will be playing a pop star in an upcoming A24 film, directed by David Lowery. Fans of the actress are already sharing their excitement after learning about ‘Mother Mary,’ which is set to have original songs produced by Jack Antonoff and Charli XCX.The storyline was described by Deadline as “an epic pop melodrama,” which follows a fictional musician, played by Hathaway, and her relationship with a famous fashion designer, played by Michaela Coel.“I will watch anything mother Anne is in,” one person wrote, while someone else commented, “MOTHER PLAYS MOTHER WITH MOTHER AND MOTHERS WILL WRITE MOTHER SONGS OMG,” adding, “Two beautiful mothers, i’m seated.”Coel is known for her multiple drama and comedy roles, most recently in her TV series ‘I May Destroy You,’ and in the acclaimed Marvel film ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.’ She also made history after winning an Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology series.Hathaway has been booked and busy recently, teasing a new installment of ‘The Princess Diaries,’ positioning herself as a fashion icon after many red carpet appearances, and working in new film projects.

I talked about this in my write-up for “Peter Pan & Wendy,” the upcoming live-action remake from Disney, but David Lowery is the King of the “one for them, one for me” creative model. Almost like clockwork, the filmmaker will follow up an indie film with a big-budget film before coming back to another indie drama.

Deadline reports that Mitchell has his next project lined up at Warner Bros., and the director is teaming up with Anne Hathaway and the Bad Robot crew for a new mystery project.
