Chris Willman Senior Music Writer and Chief Music Critic The LA Phil has announced the full summer season for Hollywood Bowl’s sister venue across the gorge, the Ford, with a typically eclectic and cross-cultural lineup that includes Mac DeMarco, Lucinda Williams, Jorge Drexler, the Milk Carton Kids, Darren Criss, Arooj Aftab, Meredith Monk, José James, a kids’ show by the Bob Baker Marionette Theater, a dance project from Serpentwithfeet and many more attractions. The smaller-sized amphitheater is one of the most prized venues for musicians to play in Los Angeles, although the Phil’s emphasis in its four months of annual shows there is far less on commercial acts than in maintaining intriguing blend of all possible arts, with jazz, Americana and Latin and global music definitely getting a leg up on pop in the programming.

Cruel Summer” and “Grown-ish” return to Freeform as part of their summer roster along with a brand-new animated comedy series “Praise Petey,” the network announced Monday. “Cruel Summer” returns with Season 2 and “Grown-ish” will be kicking off its sixth and final season with a two-part release.   The first half of “Grown-ish” Season 6 premieres June 28 and features Justine Skye and Tara Raani as returning series regulars. This season follows Annika (Skye), a sharp and funny aspiring media star who picks a college that best fits her personal brand. “Raani plays Zaara a first-generation queer Muslim American whose fearlessness inspires Junior as his best friend and go-to shoulder to lean on,” says the official show synopsis.

The return of Britain’s Got Talent drew around half a million fewer viewers than last year as the show came back on the air for the first time since the pandemic. ITV said the first episode of the 16th series had an average of 5.5 million viewers based on overnight figures.The peak viewing figure of the premiere of the talent show on Saturday at 8 pm was 6.2 million viewers.The broadcaster said it was ITV1’s highest-rated programme of the year based on overnight figures. BGT will air a further episode of auditions on Sunday at 7.45pm.

New Britain’s Got Talent judge Bruno Tonioli delighted Strictly Come Dancing viewers with his dynamic personality for 15 years. He was last seen as a judge on Strictly in 2019 and his permanent departure from the show was announced ahead of the last series. And now he’s joined forces with good friend Simon Cowell on the BGT panel, alongside fellow judges Amanda Holden and Alesha Dixon, who refers to Bruno as “an excited puppy”.
