Nadiya Hussain loves her life.
The TV chef lives to invent tasty meals, make them perfect then present them to the nation on TV. However, she spends so long in the kitchen perfecting her dishes, she often forgets that her TV shows are watched by millions and consequently she's one of the most famous faces in the UK. So when strangers start talking to her in the street, Nadiya can't help but wonder why.
“When I’m beavering away at home and doing recipes, I don't really think about the fact that I get to go out and film these amazing things,” she explains. “People come and talk to me and I'm like, ‘I don't know why you're talking because I don't really know you?’ and then I realise it's because of that whole fame thing!” Nadiya can't believe how much she's achieved since winning the Great British Bake Off in 2016. “I never imagined I would be where I am today but here I am and I am loving every second.
I didn't think that I would ever in a million years get this far,” admits Nadiya who is launching new book and TV show Nadiya's Simple Spices. “When I wrote my first cookbook I thought, ‘Well this is the first and only cookbook I will ever ever write,’ and here I am, still writing cookbooks. So that is pretty, pretty special.
I don’t take it for granted.” It’s an incredible amount of work - each cookery book takes her a year to write - but Nadiya loves baking and cooking and above all wants to inspire others to create their own hearty family meals. At home all Nadiya’s recipes are tasted at home by her own family, husband Abdal and their children Musa, Dawud and Maryam. And it's her family who keep her feet on the ground too.

Despite fears for the future of film in the new, seemingly disposable digital era, there are still many auteurs holding on out there in the modern movie landscape. For example, there’s Quentin Tarantino, Christopher Nolan and even Michael Bay (for, as director Tarsem said of the latter’s work, “You may not like it, but you know who made it”). Nothing happens by accident in a Wes Anderson movie: the camera moves are perfectly choreographed — sideways tracking shots are a specialty — and the sets don’t even begin to aim for realism. Clothes are tailored, hair and makeup is scrutinized all the way down to lipstick and nail polish, and music is key, creating a subtle, sometimes melancholy and always wholly effective emotional backdrop.
