Meeting your boyfriend's mum and dad for the first time can be tricky and there’s always a worry that you won’t get along.
However, one woman found that no matter how hard she tried, her other half's mum never seemed to like her - and ultimately ended up throwing an irreplaceable family heirloom down the drain.
Revealing her experience on social media, the 30-year-old explained that her eight-month relationship with her boyfriend was going well and he was “the sweetest and most caring man I have ever been with”.
But, she added that meeting his mother was “the biggest surprise of all”, according to Mirror Online.
In her post she described how his mother made several comments to her about her faith and her appearance during their first meeting, even saying that it was good that she didn’t eat much “because it would be a shame if she got any bigger”.
Following this, her boyfriend reassured her that he had spoken to his mother about her behaviour so she agreed to meet her again at a family birthday party.

After this, she avoided attending any of his family events but eventually agreed to go to his family reunion.
After giving her “death stares” all evening, his mother came over to the table where she was sitting with her partner’s sister, who had a twelve-year-old daughter, the same age as her niece.
She wrote: ”I then showed his sister a picture of my niece on my phone. His mother took a look at the screen and began to laugh. She told me she hopes that if I and her son ever have children that they don’t look like my niece.”
