A mum tragically died after fracturing her skull during a fall down the stairs at her home.
Marie Sherratt was discovered slouched against a wall at the bottom of the stairs not breathing in the early hours of September 17 last year.
Her partner Mark Harratt called emergency services and the 47-year-old was given CPR at the scene by paramedics, but they were unable to revive her.
An inquest into the death heard she had experienced a fall two years before and had also suffered several blackouts, Stoke-on-Trent Live reports.
Ms Sherratt, of Clowes Road, Bucknall, died from the head trauma sustained during the fall.
However, what caused her to take the tumble remains unknown.
Coroner’s officer Joanne Gething spoke to Mr Harratt to try to establish what happened.
In a statement, she said: “At 12.30am, he was wakened by a bang and realised she wasn’t in bed. He got up and realised she had fallen down the stairs and was lying at the bottom unresponsive.
“Mr Harratt said he thought she had probably got out of bed to go to the toilet and had fallen when she returned.
“Ms Sherratt had not complained of being unwell. She had drunk a bottle of Budweiser the previous evening, but nothing more. There was nothing visible with the stairs that could have caused her to slip.”
Pathologist Dr Andrew Hitchock said there was a 4cm area of bruising and abrasion to her face and another abrasion to her neck. But his main finding was the skull fracture, which had caused an intracranial haemorrhage.
There were no other signs of medical abnormalities.
Ms Sherratt’s GP records didn’t contain anything pertinent to explain what might have caused the fall.
Recording a conclusion of accidental death, North Staffordshire assistant coroner Mark Henley said: “I

Playing in the Premieres section of this year’s Sundance Film Festival, “Sharp Stick,” produced during lockdown, was conceived by Lena Dunham and the film’s director of photography, Ashley Connor, starting from the base elements that were already available to them — namely a set of actors and locations. But while many quarantine-made films have appeared to embrace a “will this do?” aesthetic, implicitly relying on the audience’s sympathy and compassionate understanding to fill gaps and forgive compromises in production value, Dunham has instead created a work of art that comfortably fits within and plays with the limitations imposed by the pandemic.
