MTV News Shuttered Amid Major Paramount Restructuring

The Family Stallone is returning for another go-round. Paramount+ has renewed the reality series, starring Sylvester Stallone, his wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone and daughters Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet, for a second season.

BreAnna Bell Just one week after the series premiered, Paramount+ has ordered a second season of “The Family Stallone.” Starring Academy Award nominee Sylvester Stallone, wife Jennifer Flavin Stallone and daughters Sophia, Sistine and Scarlet, the docuseries offers a glimpse into the personal life of Stallone and his most prized possession: his family. In the first season, fans got to know the “Rocky” star’s wife, who is the co-owner of the Serious Skin Care wellness brand and a businesswoman, as well as what his three girls are up to. The oldest, Sophia, is still finding her focus and co-hosts the “Unwaxed” podcast with Sistine; Sistine, an actress and model, who was hard at work developing her first feature film; and Scarlet whose acting career was taking off while she continued to pursue her studies in college. She recently appeared in Season 1 of “Tulsa King.” In addition to the family, some familiar faces by the likes of Al Pacino and Dolph Lundgren also made brief cameos.

Jennifer Maas TV Business Writer Layoffs will be hitting 25% of employees across the Showtime, MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks groups in the U.S. Tuesday, following months of internal deliberations about integration amid Showtime’s rebranding into Paramount+ With Showtime. Additionally, MTV News — which was significantly affected by layoffs more than five years ago — will be shutting down. Other units, most of which are operations, will be shuttered as well. In a memo to staff, Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and Paramount Media Networks president Chris McCarthy said that, despite Paramount’s “success in streaming, we continue to feel pressure from broader economic headwinds like many of our peers,” and that “senior leaders in coordination with HR have been working together over the past few months to determine the optimal organization for the current and future needs of our business.”

In the latest wave of industry layoffs, the recently combined Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios as well as Paramount Media Networks, overseen by the division’s President and CEO Chris McCarthy, is reducing its domestic team by 25% today. McCarthy addressed the cuts, which he called a “very hard but necessary decision”, in a company memo. (You can read it in full below.)

The event will tout projects from the company’s Paramount+, Showtime, MTV, Comedy Central and Paramount Network outlets, with shows including “Yellowstone,” “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” “Star Trek: Picard,” “The Daily Show” and “Yellowjackets.” The event will move into Hollywood Athletic Club on Friday, May 12, with a panel devoted to the Paramount+ series (and “Yellowstone” prequel) “1923,” and continue through Sunday, May 21, wrapping with an event devoted to the new Showtime series “Fatal Attraction.”

After five seasons, several spinoffs and endless drama, "Yellowstone" is officially coming to an end. The Kevin Costner-led western show will air the second half of its fifth and final season in November before rolling out an unnamed sequel series in December.

Todd Spangler NY Digital Editor Shares of Paramount Global tumbled as much as 22% in early trading Thursday after the media conglomerate reported disappointing first-quarter 2023 results and slashed its dividend. Paramount posted a Q1 net loss of $1.12 billion, as revenue of $7.27 billion was down 1% on shortfalls in its TV media and filmed entertainment units. The company’s streaming business, which includes Paramount+ and Pluto TV, saw revenue rise 39% in the first quarter to $1.5 billion. However, the direct-to-consumer segment posted a loss of $511 million, growing 12% compared with the year-earlier period. The company said Paramount+ added 4.1 million subscribers in the quarter, coming to a total of 60 million overall.

Paramount Global fell way shy of Wall Street forecasts with ongoing losses in streaming exacerbated by soft advertising at its TV/Media group last quarter and a dip in filmed entertainment as well. The stock is down sharply — about 14% — in early trading

Kevin Costner's impending split from his wife of 19 years, Christine Baumgartner, will be the Oscar-winning director's second time in divorce court.  Baumgartner filed Monday to end their union citing unspecified 'irreconcilable differences. ' It's believed that the pair have a pre-nuptial agreement.
