Mrs Hinch fans have worked out a cleaning hack that costs just 75p to remove unwanted brown toilet limescale. The cleaning guru, whose real name is Sophie Hinchliffe, frequently takes to social media to offer tips and tricks - she even has a fan-based Facebook group called Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips. Over on the group, one landlord sought help after their tenants moved out and left the toilet "black" with limescale.
Brown or black limescale is very common in many households and builds from the evaporated toilet water that emits calcium carbonate. If left untreated it can cause problems in bathrooms as the chalky substance builds, not to mention the unpleasant look. Seeking help the landlord asked: "My tenants have just moved out and besides leaving the house rather dirty, the toilet is black.
"Best solutions to get it back to white please?" While some Hinch fans recommended bleach, others explained this wouldn't help remove it completely but instead would simply paper over the cracks. Amongst the suggestions, there was one product that was suggested several times. "Harpic tablets work all the time and you don't need to scrub, just brush it off with your toilet brush after the tablets have been left to soak for some time", one said.
A second agreed: "Harpic toilet tablets, you only need two of them. Leave them in the bowl for around 20 to 30 minutes then brush and flush." Another confirmed the success of the product and commented: "Twenty minutes and any thick brown toilet limescale will be gone. "They are amazing and the best thing for limescale in your toilet." The Harpic tablets come in a pack of eight and are just £3 in most supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury's and Ocado.
