If your washing machine has started to smell musty and unpleasant, it could be having the same effect on your clothes.
Failing to clean it regularly can cause things like dirt, hair and oil to be caught in the mechanisms, which can result in a build-up of bacteria and a bad smell.
Luckily, fans of the cleaning influencer Mrs Hinch have shared a simple solution using a cheap £1.25 ingredient that gets rid of any odours.
The influencer has millions of followers on social media and has inspired plenty of online forums for like-minded cleaning fans to share their tips and problems with each other.
The Express reports that one person recently posted on Facebook that they were having trouble with their washing machine smelling bad, prompting others to suggest ways to fix it.
In a post, the woman said: "My washing machine has a terrible smell, have tried washing machine cleaner, vinegar and bicarbonate of soda, please help."
One of the most popular solutions was to use soda crystals in a hot wash, which people said was really effective at getting rid of the smell.
One person commented: "Hot wash with soda crystals. Manufacturers’ recommendation on mine."
Another said: "Boil wash with two cups of soda crystals. It will clean the machine and pipes."
And a third echoed: "Soda crystals. About a mug full in the drum, pack between seal and powder drawer as well. Run empty hottest wash the machine will do."
Soda crystals are relatively affordable and can be found in most supermarkets or online.
Dri Pak Fine Soda Crystals cost £1.70 from Sainsbury’s and Ocado.
DP Soda Crystals cost £1.75 from Waitrose & Partners and £1.25 from Savers.

As fun as a day out at the arcade sounds on paper, many of us are familiar with the frustration of trying to repeatedly secure a cuddly toy from the claw machine only to be met with failure every time. The more determined players are often tricked into already paying the entire price of the teddy with the money they've used trying to win it, the Mirror reports.

Premiering in the World Dramatic Competition, Adura Onashile’s debut feature Girl takes place in Glasgow, Scotland, but, given its themes of identity and belonging, this tender story of a refugee mother and daughter might as well be happening anywhere. Though the production values are exceptional for a low-budget British movie, there is also the sense that, by leaning into her restrictions, Onashile has found an interesting way to tell her story, taking us into the claustrophobic, fishbowl lives of these two loners so that it is the outside world that seems strange and ‘other’ to us whenever we are faced with it.
